I had a female student who won a medal for South Korea in speed skating and then became a French citizen. She recieved a lot of threat and negative feedback as a result.
This (well not the threats) I can kind of understand. |

Hell, there's a growing presence of Koreans (from South Korea) in Moscow and Kiev. I was in Moscow during the end of the Yeltsin era. It was one of the most interesting times of my life.
Let's not forget the fact that Emperor Gojong and his loyal associates were the biggest Korean Russophiles in the Korean history. Even Korea's opening to the West in in the late 19th century had a overtly strong Russian diplomatic affiliation. But the turmoils during WWII unfortunately made (South) Korea into an American-affiliated country today.
A South Korean obtaining a Russian citizenship? It's much better than obtaining an American citizenship IMO. |

What the heck??? Why? What are the benefits of becoming a Russian citizen? I honestly want to know. And I'd wager the countries requiring a visa from russian citizens dwarf the # that require visas from Americans. |

The Russian government manages athletes with Russian citizenships very seriously. And South Korean athletes obtaining American citizenships are very rare these days. |

For the right amount of money (and I mean a lot of money) I'd give up my Canadian citizenship in a heartbeat. |
