Hello everyone,
Very quick question: Does the CBC(RCMP Criminal Record Check) need to be notarized by a public notary before getting the Consular Seals attached at the consulate?

The following link makes it sound like you don't need to have the original notarized first: http://www.koreanconsulate.on.ca/en/?mnu=a02b04

Let me know if you have any experience in this area.

Thanks in advance.

Police check = no.
degree copy = yes (certified as a true copy of the original).

Both degree and CBC have to be notarized. If you're in Korea, notarizing degree is impossible, according to an official from Canadian consulate. She said that in order to notarize a degree, it has to be sent to Ottawa.

If you are sending your police check to washington to get apostilled, then you do not, because the SOS of the USA is apostiling the signature of the FBI burearu cheif. If you are one of those lucky people who live in a state where the State will apostille the CRC, then YES you do need it notarized. The SOS of a particular state does not have the authority to authenticate the signature of a Federal official, however, if you get it notarized, then they do have the authority to authenticate Your signature.

Korean immigration does not care who apostilles it, as long as it has an apostille attached.

I suspect TS is Canadian, thus the set of necessary procedures is a bit different.

I will find out today. I am leaving from Toronto in a few short hours. I will report back with my findings.

On the above link it does state that you do need transcripts. I am picking them up along the way.

Cheers

So on my cover letter, the actual documents that need to be apostilled are the FBI CBC and copy of diploma correct? Not the notarized affidavits certifying their authenticity? Also, not the letter of authentication from the FBI CBC?

I believe the CBC has to be notarized first. I just sent a copy of the CBC and the original to the Korean Consulate in Vancouver, and both were notarized (I wasn't sure on the policies so I did it this way just in case). The Consulate sent them back saying that they needed to be notarized AGAIN because the date wasn't clearly indicated on the notary stamp.

This happened about 3 days ago.

just got mine done in december. ttompatz is correct (and is the person whose advice i had followed).

you need to get a copy of your degree notarized, but not the cbc. the original is just certified by the embassy/consulate.
