the best thai place is in hyehwa. it is about a thousand times better than anything in itaewon. i forgot the name. if you go there and walk around you'll find it. egh sorry i can't remember the name... but i can ask my friend who lives in hyehwa if you want. |
Some directions would be much appreciated. |
I know... I'm sorry. It wasn't much help. I'll ask my friend who lives in Hyehwa and get back to you ASAP. |

Where in Seoul can I get really spicy Thai food. Specifically, I'm looking for Red Curry.
I've been to a couple places and the red curry on their menu is always pretty mild. Even when I tell them to make it extra extra Thai hot spicy, they never do.
Anyone know a good thai place that will cause me to sweat profusely and cry with a single bite? |
what's the appeal of super-spicy food? i never understood it. usually it's just a pain in the mouth and the spiciness masks the flavor of whatever you're eating. not to mention breaking out in sweats |

it's the same appeal as those who enjoy roller coasters, skydiving, sports, etc.
spicy food causes a rush of endorphines that just feels good.
although it's more of an adage than anything, i've always said i could never fully trust someone who didn't like spicy food. not only does it release endorphines, it also connects us to a masochistic side that all of us have inside whether it's realized or not. now pause, don't go thinking masochism is inherently bad like most ought to do, because it's not. yes it can be, but just like anything else in life it can be beneficial if not taken to extremes. it's simply just a realization that we can inflict a little pain on ourselves to gain pleasure and reach a higher understand. this can be said to anything that causes both pleasure and pain, such as love, things like tattoos and piercings, sports like boxing, spicy foods, horror movies, etc.
i'm not calling you ignorant directly or trying to sound like i am so don't misconstrue what i'm about to type, but i'm actually the opposite of you in that i never understood people who don't like spicy food or cannot connect with their masochistic sides. there's a level of ignorance there (again not ignorance as in "you are stupid", but ignorance as in "a lack of understanding") that i personally am not comfortable living with since i have the type of mind that needs and wants to know everything, no matter how good or bad it is. |

Okay, update. I asked him. The place is called "Little Elephant" and it's close to Hyehwa station. I can't find the directions on the website but you can call. I am sure somebody speaks English and if they don't just get a Korean to help you.
The food here was way, way better than any other Thai food I had in Korea. There were actual Thai people speaking Thai making the food. The ambiance of the restaurant was also beautiful.
Hyehwa is just a great area for food. Also check out Shiraz - also in Hyehwa. it's an amazing Persian restaurant.

I forgot to say, if you're anywhere near Songtan (line 1) there's a place opposite the big sport's massage place in the town centre, called Sawatree I think. They do the proper hot ones there and it's good stuff, not Koreanised Thai food. |

siam in hongdae is quite good as well.
haven't had their curries so can't comment on that, but everything i've had is great. i'm no thai food expert, but my friend (thai) introduced me to it and swears it's the best.
just above hongdae ddeokboki on the main strip where all the luxury norae-bongs are. |

I've been to Siam as well and it's definitely pretty good eats. However, I also didn't have curry.
But thanks to this thread I checked out Buddha's Belly in Itaewon and their red curry. It wasn't really spicy (though I didn't specifically request it) but the flavor was quite good. |

Next time you go anywhere, ask if the Chef is Thai.
If yes, then try to get a diret message to him to make it to Thai tastes if possible. |

I second the places in songtan. There are two of them, one right by the front gate of Osan AF base and down the strip on the right 2nd floor. Great stuff!and spicy! |
