Hi,

I'm applying to a few universities (1st time) and they each want, what I assume to be the same thing under different names, some kind of paper that serves as proof of current (?) employment.

One uni wants a, "copy of working experience certification", another wants "an original copy of employment certificate" and the one that goes into the most detail requests a "Proof of Teaching Exeperience"; which is supposed to be some magical document that includes the following:
1) Name & contact info of employee
2) employment period
3) position
4) job description and duties
5) avg instruction time per week (WHAT??)
6) employer's signature/official stamps

If I work at a public high school under SMOE, would my contract sufficiently serve as the "proof of employment" these universities want? I'm a bit reluctant to poke around at my school because I'd have to leave my job mid-contract to work at a uni.

Can any uni vets shed some light on this requirement?

Also, because I thought I was going home for sure after my current contract, I neglected to apply for another FBI CRC (I'm from the States)--I'm going to get on that as soon as I'm done clicking submit here--am I too late?

My VISA doesn't expire until August, because I'm supposed to be employed under SMOE until then but I'm going to quit if I can land a uni job.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
BB

It's not a magical document. You request it from your past employers. They are required by Korean law to provide you with one, if requested.

Very simple. You're applying for a uni position, but couldn't find this out yourself? Shocked

Certificate of employment.

Labor standards act.
Article 39 (Certificate of Employment)
(1) If a worker makes a request to issue a certificate specifying term of employment, job specification, title and wages or other necessary information even after the retirement of the worker, the employer shall immediately prepare and issue the factually correct certificate.

(2) The certificate referred to in paragraph (1) shall only contain the items that the worker concerned has requested.

The employer can charge a fee of up to 1000 won for the preparation of the document.

With school starting March 1, for you to do all you need for a new Visa, that would be the miracle. Better not quit current job, or you will have nothing.

If you don't want your school to know you're looking to jump ship, then simply tell them you need it for some reason back home - i.e. "I need a form to show my home government I'm employed for my taxes," or "I am trying to get extra insurance coverage and they need this proof of employment form."

As the last guy said, make sure you have your papers in order. More than likely, IF you get a new job and are leaving mid contract, your current employer will more than likely give you a letter of release, so make sure your ducks are in a row for this.

I love your handle, haha.

I've e-mailed the schools I'm applying to asking them if it's alright if I don't have the CBC until late March.

Crossing my fingers.

And yeah, don't plan on mentioning anything to my principal 'til I grab a job.

Luckily, my employer didn't care at all that I wanted them and is giving me 2 Smile

Thanks for the concern. I'm trying to play this as safe as possible.

And yours is very clever. If we said the name of your bird in a post it might not go through because of the swear fiter. Shocked
