I'd greatly appreciate if someone could enlighten me on the d-10 "looking for work visa".
Thanks in advance.

It is a bridge visa for those between jobs (unless of course you hold a PhD).
After your contract ends, go to immigration, switch to a D10, find a new job and then switch back to E2 rather than leave, return and start again. The cost is 50k per status (E2-D10, D10-E2) switch.
Won't work mid contract unless you have a LOR.

Thanks again Ttompatz. I was just curious because it seems there are 'restrictions' on who can get it. |

As a bridge there are few restrictions other than being free to seek employment.
If you are applying for it as your start position there are lots of restrictions (primarily to prevent a flood of economic refugees landing with no hope of employment and no resources to leave).

Going from D-10 to E-2, does one need a new CBC? |

A few final questions about the D-10.
1. How close to the termination date of my ARC should I apply for the visa transfer to a D-10 status. Can I leave it until a week before the expiration of my ARC? The reason I ask is that I don't want to lose my E-2 health coverage before I have to.
2. Next question. I don't want to list my previous employer on my resume. (I got fired from a horrid hogwan. I just want to put the experience behind me and block it out of memory.) I want to tell prospective employers / recruiters that I arrived in Korea on a D-10 visa, that immigration already has all my documents, and all I need is a signed contract. I want to keep my hellish hogwan out of it altogether if possible. Will my new school find out that I worked at said hogwan? Essentially, I'm asking if I will be caught in a lie if I don't put the hogwan on my resume?
Thank you kindly in advance.

1) Any time up to a week before your ARC expires but within 30 days of your termination of employment (immigration reporting rules).
IE.
If your contract is expiring you can do it any time during the last 7 days of your contract.
If you terminate your contract early you are required to report the change of status to immigration even if your ARC still has 9 months till expiry.
2) Yes, they will know, if you are on a D10, that you had a previous E2. The D10 is a bridge visa (unless of course you hold a PhD - they can get one from abroad).

Useful information - thanks guys.
Do you know how long it is possible to stay on a D10 before finding another job? |

Immigration website says 6 months.... but... I know one person who has obtained a D-10 and he was given a 3 month expiration date. This could mean a few different things...
1. maybe it's "up to" 6 months and the immigration officer has some discretion on the actual duration
2. maybe after 3 months you can go back to immigration and renew for an additional 3 months
3. maybe the immigration officer made a mistake
4. maybe the website is wrong
He found a job before the 3 months was up so we never got to find out. |

So, I went to immigration today and applied for the D-10. The young fella behind the desk didn't seem to really know what it was. Anyway, I eventually got it applied for and can pick it up in two weeks (why so long?) The young immi. officer seemed to think that I still need to provide docs for my next job. Please tell me that I misheard him. The last thing I need when trying to change my D-10 visa to a new E-2 is for the immigration officer to say, "Okay, now where's your new criminal background check, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Why so long = because you need a new ARC (D10 instead of E2).
You only need new "docs" if they don't have a national CBC with apostille or degree "copy" with apostille on file.
If they have them on file already then you only need:
passport
ARC
new contract
application
fees
new employer sponsorship form
new employer business registration.

Thanks, Ttompatz. Can I assume that since I have a current E-2 visa that they have all of my documents on file? |

IF your E2 was issued AFTER Jan 1, 2011 then yes.
IF it was issued prior to Dec 2010 and you are not American then yes.
If it was issued prior to Dec 2010 and you are American then maybe yes, maybe no. Contact Kimmi (in person and NOT by phone) and ask about YOUR specific case if you are not sure.
