I can't. I get a message saying I need a minimum of 25 posts before I can PM. Is there a reason you don't want to post? I would really appreciate any information you can give me.

I was offered a job but i didn't accept it because I would have to had to take a pay cut and teach more classes than now. The vacations were quite generous for an elementary school though, but it did seem like an awful lot of prepping and responsibility for the wage they offered.

This is how I felt as well. I was also offered a position, but after hearing that I would have to create 12-16 different lessons every week (same kids 3 times a week, up to 3 or 4 different levels), I said no way. It seems like a good school to work for and the vacation time was very generous, but only if you're willing to do extra work like editing, grading, test making, and A LOT of prep and planning every week.

Yeah, I am in a situation where I can keep my GEPIK job and live/work separately from my boyfriend or take this job at Sangmyeong and work and live with my boyfriend. I don't particularly want to work with him, but I do want to live with him and have the same working hours.

The GEPIK job sounds way better because I still get a long vacation. It's less teaching hours for the same pay (my GEPIK school is giving me 4 hours of overtime a week so I will be teaching 26 instead of 22) and it's on the very eastern edge of Bucheon, on the border of Seoul.

My boyfriend was planning on finding a hagwon job near Bucheon so we could at least be within 30 minutes of each other. He hasn't found one yet so that is kind of stressful. But with this job, we could just both be employed and be together for sure.

The job just doesn't sound as good as the GEPIK one and I don't want to turn that one down.

One of the bad things about working at a GEPIK school is you are usually the only foreigner at your job. You can feel quite isolated. (Although that can be a good thing sometimes too). Just take that into consideration.

Usually the private elementary schools are pretty sweet gigs.

Hi

could anyone tell me a little about Sangmyeong school please

I have been offered a job elsewhere but I may wish to stall them as Sangmyeong seems right up my street (I am a qualifed Math teacher so it will benefit me career wise If I can continue to teach Math)

The job advert says 40 days vacation, is this adhered to ? is 40 days decent ?

I thought pupils were off for more than 8 weeks??? ( I have only hagwon experience in Korea)

What sort of extra work is needed ?

thanks

I currently work at this school, and I really enjoy it so far. It was a lot of work at the beginning getting adjusted to a private school setting and schedule, but if you are consistent and thoughtful, your second semester is a breeze.

It's definitely not a school for everyone though. You get back as much as you put in. If you're the type of person who really enjoys teaching and interacting with students, this school is perfect for you. If you're the type of person who is here to make a quick buck with as little work possible, you may want to consider another option.
