So a while ago I was going to the bathroom when another student (maybe 7-8 years old) started using the urinal next to me. I saw him try to get a look, which freaked me out. I turned to the side and finished as fast as I could. Since then I've never gone to the bathroom during breaktime. All that kid has to do is go home and say to his parents "I saw teacher's *beep* today!". I would be so screwed.

Anyone else feel this way?

As a happy ending, the business below us moved out, so now the teachers have their own bathroom.

I never use the urinals for that very reason. I always use the cubicle/stall instead.
Happy urinating nextime Smile

There was no staff restroom at the public school I taught at despite it's fairly large size. It was awkward as the kids are too curious and just didn't allow me to take a, "rest," in the restroom.

I think the culture is a little different here. I teach at a public elementary school where there isn't an easily accessible staff bathroom. Kids have come in while I'm going to the bathroom and made a big deal out of checking out my junk then yell to their friends out in the hall something like "Teacher's in the bathroom come look at his gochu!" Noone seems to think this is odd.

I've also run into students and parents at the sauna. You'll notice that little boys here also constantly poke each other in the crotch and rear end. They'd all be in therapy back home.

Sheesh. Breaking news: teacher urinates.

Ditto to Rutherford. I've met students in the sauna. An elementary school I worked in last semester had no staff washroom & the urinals were in full view through a glass door from the hall. Guess what, no one cared. No big deal.

I notice students doing this all the time. Wouldn't worry about it.

I also use the cubicles but they are designed to be opened from the outside.
Therefore you have to keep your foot constantly against the door to prevent people bursting in.

It =?????

For that kind of play on words (and misuse of apostrophe)...you should be hung.
Oh wait...maybe you are. Wink

Laughing

And now that many kids have cell phones with cameras, be sure to press your foot really hard against the door.

Just as many old men try to look at it. Had some goofy 50-something guy at a bus stop restroom near pyungchan actually bend down and turn his head sideways to see me pee once. He was obviously a bit off.

slightly off topic

I can't understand why during big holidays there is a huge line for the MENS room when they actively resist the handi-stall.

Gents, it may be wrong but if you gotta go you gotta go Wink

I often get locals blatantly staring like that when I'm at the urinal. Not just side glances but people moving their head over and looking right down at it. I'm average so there shouldn't be a big deal at all. I've gotten a few audible gasps and even a "Oh! very gooood!" from an ajussi. Even though I guess it was a complement, I was weirded out by it and had the urge to punch him. The guy gave off a pervy vibe.

I wouldn't say it's "normal" behavior here or anywhere. They certainly wouldn't be caught doing that to another Korean.

It's just more of the zoo creature effect foreigners sometimes have on them. My friend actually got applause and people trying to touch his in the sauna, and these were adults doing this.

I only used the urinal during my free periods at my high school when the students were all in class, otherwise I would use a stall. One kid came in once while I was finishing up at the urinal and tried to get a look.

I sometimes showered at my martial arts school after class and it was totally fine. No one was checking me out as far as I could tell.

I was with a buddy at the sauna who was visiting and a guy acutally did cop a feel. I yelled at the guy to leave. My buddy asked if that was a cultural thing and I told him no way. He said, "I should have decked him then." Glad he didn't but, wtf?

Anyway, back to the peeing thing. I also use the stalls or stand a cm from the urinal itself as not to let any lookie loos get a glance.
