So, live-and-learn-from-my-foolishness story. Didn't think to check Korean customs laws, declared my knife because I am (too) honest at times, blah blah. Ends up with customs, and I have a little less than one month left to reclaim it. The only way to do that is have someone take it back to America. Can't mail it? Hokay. I am out of options at this point, as I haven't met anyone in my area that could take it back. I don't even care if it's left at customs in America at this point, as I have plenty of *American* family friends who could take care of it from that point.
Long story short, I am looking for anyone who would be able to take it back to America for me and I can reclaim it later this year. It was my father's knife, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me. Please let me know, or any other options I may be missing here.

If there was some sort of PM requirement (think I read 8?), haven't met it yet.

I would help you if I could. I'm heading to China in a few weeks, but somehow I don't think it would work any better there.

What are they saying, they'll only hand it over to someone who's about to board a plane for the US? How big of a knife is it? Like a pocketknife? Have you asked about using some kind of courier service?

Or what about a secured version of FedEx, instead of 'mail'? So Korea Post won't take it, but surely one of the big global carriers will?

I brought one of these myself, and just stuffed it way down into one of my checked bags. No problems with KCS. As long as you don't try to get it through TSA checks, you should generally be safe.

I hope you can find a solution, Korean customs can be absolutely stupid sometimes

Did you have it in your checked luggage? According to the TSA, you have to put it in checked luggage.

Buh? I had a good sized CRKT pocket knife in my checked bag and aside from gawking at it for a good 20 minutes and being entirely incapable of figuring out how to close it, they had no issues with it.

Well, it's a military/switchblade knife, so the fact that Korea is already pretty strict wasn't in my favor. Obviously I *shouldn't* have it, but my dad left it and I've used it for years now with no problems (in part due to the reason of how I have one), even taking it to Japan. Sort of became natural in my head that it's just a pocket knife that stays in my room. But yeah, they're saying only someone who is heading back to America can take it off their hands and put it in their luggage. Not once had a problem with TSA. They even left a note saying they inspected the bag with the knife on the way to Korea. I'll try calling about doing FedEx or something.

Maybe you would've had better luck putting it in your carry on. I noticed an hour into a Seattle-Seoul flight this summer I had my Cold Steel Recon 1 in my bag!
