The authorities are handing down at least six months in a labor-training camp to anybody who didnt participate in the organized gatherings during the mourning period, or who did participate but didnt cry and didn't seem genuine.

I'm considering adding a provision in my will that a team of NK professional mourners perform at my funeral to give me a proper send-off. |

According to China Daily some Chinese businessmen on a train who were not showing the proper amount of grief were thrown off of the train and beaten. |

The website reporting this isn't exactly known for its even-handed treatment of issues.
For one, it's stated purpose is the "democratization of North Korea".
Gee, wonder who founded it to begin with
May as well consult FOX news on any improprieties regarding Republicans. |

Even the Chinese are chuckling at the fake hysterics shown by mourners. . An older Chinese woman who I am friends with said that when Mao died it was the same in China. people were beaten if they were not sobbing or banging their heads against walls in grief. It's the cult of personality. |

Pyongyang bellows back at rumors
Jan 16,2012
North Korea on Saturday angrily refuted allegations that citizens who failed to appear sincere in their mourning of leader Kim Jong-il were being rounded up and sentenced to hard labor.
Some media outlets in the South have claimed North Koreans who did not participate in organized public mourning, failed to cry, or did not appear genuine, have been sentenced to at least six months in labor camps.
But Pyongyangs official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said such misinformation touched off towering resentment among North Koreans, denouncing those who spread the allegations as pitiable human scum.
The group of traitors hell-bent on the anti-DPRK [North Korea] campaign could hardly understand the weight and sincerity of the tears shed by the service personnel and people of the DPRK, KCNA said.
The reports originated on Daily NK, an Internet Web site run by opponents of North Korea, which said it had learned the information from a source in the isolated communist states northeastern province of North Hamkyong.
In recent weeks the North has accused the Souths government of showing disrespect during the mourning period for Kim, who died on December 17 and was succeeded by his son Kim Jong-un.
Relations have been icy since the South accused the North of responsibility for two deadly cross-border incidents in 2010.
On Thursday, the Norths state Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said Lees government had escalated confrontation and staged a smear campaign.
It said the South Korean military was put on alert following the announcement of Kims sudden death and accused the Seoul government of leveling the gun at the fellow countrymen shedding tears in great grief. |

Sure, it's quite logical to go with the Daily NK, as they are in no way going to fabricate or embellish such a story; not only are they the openly stated opponents of North Korea, their "source" for this particular story is someone we can all readily confirm as credible ...you know, I've got a "source" in Tibet who confirms that the Yeti exists..sorry, he lives in a remote province without the net or a post box, so it'd be hard for you to get in touch with him, so you'll just have to take my word for it |

Stories and Nork propaganda, love the north over the top language. Jasper Becker who was the China correspondent for the Guardian writes of talking to Chinese who said when Mao died their Grandparents were almost disoriented, some just sat and stared the loss of the emperor meant no direction no one to tell them what to do.
There is an account of a north Korean who described what it was like when Kim il Sung died of forcing tears, and seeing people roughed up who were not wailing enough. This tradition of public mourning being a requirement when a leader dies goes back a long way into Chinese/Korean history. |

Have you read North Korea's belligerent and seemingly irrational response to the story? It only makes me more inclined to believe that the Daily NK's sources are credible. |

Stout, if you want to believe the official news out of the DPRK, be my guest. You seem determined to tow the socialist line, so all the power to ya.
I can't wait until Kim Jr golfs 18 holes in one like his daddy.
Yup, that is one credible side you've got. |

You guys can continue to hop on the bandwagon, as it's apparent you're real concerned with seeing unicorns and elves.

About an hour before closing time on Jan. 6, a rumor that a North Korean nuclear reactor had exploded spread through the South Korean stock market, dragging the KOSPI down nearly 10 points for several minutes.
Less than two weeks before, the market was hit by rumors that Kim Jong-un, the youngest son and successor of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, had been assassinated and China was sending troops into the North. With individual investors dumping their shares, the index fell by more than 2 percent in just a few minutes, though it made a partial recovery before the market closed.
Concerns over North Koreas volatile situation, deepened by Kim Jong-ils death last month, has been a hot bed for such false rumors, which have swayed South Koreas stock exchange. Pyongyangs announcement of Kims death, which came two days after he died on Dec. 17, rattled financial markets in Seoul, causing the KOSPI to plunge by 3.43 percent to close at 1776.93.
Market watchers say that false rumors about North Korea, most of which appear to be spread by people investing in derivative products that make profits when stock prices fall, are expected to continue |
