First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.
Then they started barring Waygooks from the A-Row girls on Hooker Hill.

I don't think the article is predicting foreigners will riot. Easy solution don't renew their visas or deport them.
The issue is that South Korean citizens (with assumed legal and equal rights) who don't have a strong South-Korean bloodline will create future problems. Ethnic Koreans who have moved back here, <100% Koreans and even north-Koreans all face issues integrating into Korean society, not to mention the 100% non-ethnic Korean.
The kids are going to be disadvantaged. When they grow up, they are the ones who could riot.

The government is working on it and taking action. Furthermore, Korean children are learning about multicultural tolerance in school. The old and stubborn who have the most pessimistic views according to the survey will die off naturally. Immigrants are offered chances to become better integrated. |

| Britain has a history going back thousands of years which includes numerous successful and documented foreign conquests and lots of blood meddling. (celtic/roman/saxon/norman)....Korea doesn't. But I agree, joining a Korean Church would help you win community support, More so than practicing a 'foreign' religion and spending most of your free time hiding in enclave communities with other foreigners. |

Okay, I give up. Where, exactly, are all these neighborhoods with SE Asian workers that have brought in theri grandparents, aunts, and uncles? As for their kids, those who have at least one Korean parent are Koreans, even if Korean society doesn't seem to consider them so. |
It's an absolute nonsense argument, especially considering Korea doesn't grant birthright citizenship. |

Numerous invasions? No rapes or people mixing? No blood line is pure. That's a bunch of nonsense. A national identiity as defined in the US or Canada isn't along racial or blood lines. It's defined by a common sense of principals or beliefs.
If you want to live here, speak Korean, do some occasional polite bowing (but tone down the more blantant parts of confucianism), and like spicy food. Define your identity this way. (I'm oversimplifying, but you get what I mean.) Population numbers are going down and you will need immigration to survive. Japan is for the Japanese. How's that working out for them? Declining population and declining economy.
Anyone who wants to live here permanently and become a citizen ought to try to adapt to some Korean ways and Korea needs to adapt to the world around it. How can one be a nation of exporters and, yet, closed off from the world? Doesn't make sense.
Assimilation means all sides blend together and form a new identity. Korean culture is changing. But is western culture the same as it was 50 or 100 years ago? Just ask my grandparents or great grandparents. Some of the change for the better and some maybe not for the better. But life wasn't perfect back then either. |
