| No doubt bribery is an ingrained problem in Korea, but the number of scandals involving the current administration seems to go above and beyond the call of duty. So much so that to compare scandals on the left and right seems a false equivalence. So far, we've got a corrupt superintendent at SMOE on the left and that's it at the moment, unless Captain Corea can find some more. Another reason I believe it's a false equivalence is because I think the ruling party/administration, as they are in power, should be held to higher standards. |
From your join date, I'm guessing you've been here for a while.
Don't you recall when Noh was in office - the scandals at the time? His brother taking money? His family being investigated? His nephew and the game machine fiasco?
Whoever is in power gets the focus, that's nothing new.
If the "liberal" side wins this year, it'll be their turn in power, and their turn to deal with the scandals and such.
No side or party can claim innocence here. |

Politics is a dirty game, and stuff will always happen, regardless of the party or side.
However, with Noh, you're talking about problems with his family. This thread implicates a key leader of the conservative party. |

And Noh killed himself... very possibly to halt the investigation. He's considered a demigod to much of the Left, and an icon of their ideals... yet he too was battered about by corruption scandals.
And his predecessor... were there not also scandals involving him? |

The Korean Left will always rise once again. Noh Mu-hyun was assassinated. He never committed suicide.
Everybody knows this. His will doesn't match his own handwriting.
For Christian Socialism in this land..... we must promote the Left. |

Piss off with that praying schtick. This forum has rules regarding bringing religion into the mix. No need to say it. No need to pm me asking to pray with you.
Keep it out of the discussion. |

Hey, why no posts about how the Liberal Education superintendent gave his competitor 100 or so million won... right after he dropped out from the competition.

Missed that one. Links anyone? |
He just got convicted
Kwak guilty of bribery
| Quote: |
Kwak was indicted in September 2011 on suspicion that he handed out 200 million won to Park Myong-gee, a professor at Seoul National University of Education who was a leading candidate during the 2010 election for Seoul education superintendent.
At that time, Park suddenly dropped out of the race, and Kwak became the single liberal candidate and won the election.
Prosecutors suspected that Kwak gave money in return for his rivals withdrawal. They found that Kwaks aide and Parks aide secretly met before the election in June 2010 and agreed to exchange money for Parks exit.
But Kwak said he didnt order the agreement and was informed of the arrangement four months after the election.
He argued that eight months after the election, he decided to give the money as a goodwill gesture after he heard Park would drop out of the campaign on which he spent so much money. |
As I stated before, both sides of this are pretty dirty. |

Just weeks after accusations that the ruling Grand National Partys former chairman Park Hee-tae gave envelopes stuffed with cash to his fellow lawmakers to win the 2008 leadership election, prosecutors were tipped off that the major opposition Democratic United Party also had a similar problem.
According to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office, Kim Gyeong-hyeop, a former presidential secretary during late president Roh Moo-hyuns administration, allegedly distributed cash envelopes to DUP lawmakers at the Seoul KyoYuk MunHwa HoeKwan, the partys venue for watching the election results, in southern Seoul, in December 2011. |
As I said before.. it seems to flow back and forth. BOTH parties have their fingers in a number of cookie jars. |

Kim Gyeong-hyeop has been cleared. They were not envelops stuffed with money but invitations to his book publication party. Any more scandals invoked by the right wing you believe in?

Oh really? From that same article
| Quote: |
Prosecutors said they decided to withdraw the allegations against Kim after making the determination that "Kim's claims that he distributed only publication party invitations are acceptable."
The agency, however, said the bribery suspicions surrounding the opposition party's December preliminary election are still valid and they will continue to investigate. |
