I'd like to first apologize if:
A.) This has already been asked
B.) This isn't the appropriate place to ask this
The search function just seems to keep bringing up irrelevant hits every time I try to search for a simple answer.
What are the background check requirements to get a teaching visa in South Korea. Looking at the Korean Consulate website (Houston) it says nothing about background checks, however I keep reading about FBI background checks on this site.
Furthermore, does the FBI background check need to be completely clean, or is there a line drawn at a certain point? If it DOES need to be clean, anyone know of a country which has less stringent requirements?
I was printed for two Class B misdemeanors, with zero convictions, if that helps at all. |

For an E2 visa to teach in Korea you need an FBI check WITH an apostille affixed to it.
If your FBI check comes back and says anything other than "no derogatory comment" your visa application will be denied. IF it comes back clear then you are good to go.
If your FBI check is not clean then look at places south of the border (Mexico to South America), Taiwan and China (you could get by with an "out-of-state" check, Indonesia, Cambodia and Thailand (if you get your visa in Asia rather than in the US).

Effective next month the MOE will require it for everyone (F4 holders included) who wishes to be a teacher.
It is NOT a requirement for the F4 visa nor is it a requirement for other (non-teaching) jobs.
