To those sending out copies of their ARC for job applications, do you edit your ARC numbers? You can set up quite a bit with just your ARC number and name alone....

I blur everything useful out in Photoshop on my ARC (the second set of numbers) and passport (number, barcode). I also PDF and watermark my resumes and cover letters.

It can't hurt and I've never had a problem. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the reply! I've been Photoshopping the numbers on both my passport and ARC as well and sending out just PDFs of documents. Will look into watermarking. I was beginning to think that maybe I was being paranoid.

Not paranoid at all! There are definitely people out there who put up fake job ads for dishonest purposes, either to gather your info and sell it to recruiters, to try and scam you, or to create a fake identity.

That's no exaggeration -- I have several teacher friends who ran into pretty serious trouble because they gave their docs out too freely. I have even heard of other teachers stealing documents, altering them, and using them to get a job (in China for example, where they don't verify college degrees the way they do in Korea).

As for watermarking, it's just one more thing to make your CV/cover letter more distinctly yours. It's pretty easy to do in MS Word and then convert to PDF (though you can also watermark in Adobe Acrobat Pro).

I also watermark the scans of my diplomas, certs, reference letters...pretty much anything I send out.

If you need any help watermarking let me know. Have fun! It's kind of entertaining sending out very personal information to who knows who...

ARC number yes, passport number no.

Absolutely nothing you can do with a persons passport number, it doesnt link to other information and, in all honesty, there would be more you could do with just a person's name and their home address which is easily found via google.

ARC number on the other hand would allow you to do many different things.
