Has anyone done this within Seoul? I know it can be done at the immigration, the problem is I will be on a bit of a time crunch and I was wondering if the process is a long one.
How long did it take you to transfer your visa status? Also....do you really need proof that you have $10,000+ in the bank? I saw nothing about this on the immi website, but the lady on the phone told me it was necessary.
Thanks in advance! |

The processing time is long; somewhere between 15 and 120 minutes.
Can't answer about the asset requirement. Enforcement is sketchy and at the discretion of the immigration officer when you apply.

I did E2 to D4 last year and it's a pretty similar process. As far as I know, they are pretty strict with the money requirement (although the one for a D4 is about 7K less).
It took about 10 minutes to process, but I had to wait about 2 weeks to pick it up. |

The only part I can comment on is the bank statement part, and yes...that is required by the university even before you are accepted..but also by immigration. Without that bank statement, you wont even be admitted to the university and given the document needed for visa processing.
However typically you do not even need to go to the immigration office yourself...usually the international office at the university will have someone who takes ALL incoming students documents to immigration. It should only take 2-3 weeks to process. You can go yourself of course...but it would take the same amount of time. |

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I turned in the bank statement in my application to the school...just wondering if I really need another one, but I guess the answer is yes.
My E-2 expires Feb. 28th, I cannot apply for the D-2 until Feb. 23rd (I'll be visiting the US) at the earliest....so I guess I will have to extend my E-2 visa first or something since it takes 2-3 weeks to process. That's doable, right? |

I dont think you would need another one, as the certificate of acceptance and the certificate of visa issuance form the university should have that info included..and if you allow the university to handle getting the visa..then they would turn in the one you gave them.
However, if you are planning to go to immigration yourself..you might want to bring another one just in case. |

I don't think so. I applied for my D4 on the last day of my E2. As long everything goes through fine when you go to immi, you shouldn't need to worry. |
