Google the statistics on bowel cancer and you will see that the lifetime statistical likelihood of getting bowel cancer is around 5%. (Which is what they base this type of study on) Eating too many sausages will increase this to 6%. Not really as 'dramatic' a threat as the Mail would have you believe.

A good point to make, ecf. After noticing this alarmist post and looking at the article to see if they mentioned the actual occurrence % of this type of cancer, I was going to make the same observation. The article never told you what the incidence of bowel cancer was, I speculate, because it wouldn't have the same alarmist impact of knowing that is was 5%, and so eating one every day would increase your lifetime risk to 6% if, as they claim, it will increase it by 20%.

If one wishes to know the truth of such claims more dedicated research and critical evaluation is required too, as there are many reasons for doubting the validity of many "scientific" studies. Do you think that Monsanto's "scientific" studies might, for example, be designed to show that its GMO products are perfectly safe rather than designed to provide careful, objective information.

Regrettably, finding out the truth about many things requires a lot of difficult effort at critical thinking.

That's called anecdotal evidence.

no, it's true, a german guy who died last year, google it.

plenty of cases like this.

Anecdotal does not mean it's untrue; it means it is unreliable. Once again, please refer to Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdotal_evidence

While a small percentage of heavy smokers may live that long, it does not debunk the scientific evidence that smoking increases your risk of cancer.

how about the study where they said people who sit in front of their pc for more 8 hours a day are risk of developing cancer
coffee, meat, blar blar blar
everyday there is a study which shows you will get cancer.
guess what?

we are all dying of some sort of cancer.

This, undoubtedly the most important predictor of longevity is genetics. Either you have good genes or you don't. I laugh at all of the morons who spend all of their waking hours focused on vegan diets only to die of cancer at 50.

Enjoy life, eat moderately well and hope to God that you have good genes.

yep bang on.
moderation and genes is key
Of course lets not go out and eat 20 smoked sausages a day for the next 20 years

let's see how long those eating contest guys live for.
That will be a good example. I mean those guys eat like 100 dogs in 10 minutes several times a year, going over the quota . if they live past 70 then this study is bogus. haha

hey what about the guy who died of lung cancer who smoked for only 10 years? true story. my dads friend. mean while the other friend is still smoking, entering his 50th year as a 2 pack a day smoker and still going strong. 65 years old, wonder if he will make it another 20 years.
and frankly if any of us make it to 85-90 we have done pretty good.

My grandfather lived to be 83 years old. I remember him eating pork almost every morning for breakfast. It was natural not processed. Yep, pork, butter, eggs, sausage, milk, etc. He seemed to always be healthy. Of course the vegans will blast this with he could have lived to be 84 if he hadn't eaten the pork.

Maybe he couldn't have lived that long. Every person's body is different. I used to be vegetarian, but since going back on seafood, my skin has been flawless.

How about pigskin for the collagen?
