You could make your own yogurt with your rice cooker. Just use organic milk. You might need to use a non-organic yogurt drink as a starter, if you can't find organic stuff, but then just keep reusing a bit of your yogurt (like sourdough) and you'll soon dilute the non-organic stuff out. By doing it the rice cooker way (or yogurt maker, if you're fancy) you can choose your own ingredients, and it'll be sugar free! Then, if you want it thicker, strain it for a bit in a cheesecloth.

I've posted how to make yogurt on this forum before, so give it a search.

Best,
NYC

Chicken with the Korean Government Organic label is available many places -- EMart, Costco, many more.

Found organic chicken at Homeplus, though at 6900won for three smallish breasts it isn't cheap. Will check out Emart for comparison. I've read that Orga has organic chicken but can't seem to find a store anywhere. Anyone have directions?

Also, if anyone can explain or post a link explaining the differences between the organic labels here in Korea then that would be great.

That's cheaper than the UK and we've had organic stuff on the shelves for years.

I don't do much food shopping at Homeplus. About the only food I go there for is fresh, whole coconuts since they are almost unobtainable in Seoul anywhere else.

I'm looking at a whole organic, cut up chicken from Costco - 1.3 kg. Don't remember the exact cost but is was under 10,000. They are available at EMart too. Same brand. Same general price.

Here's some explanation of the Korean Organic Labeling system:

Here's what the package of organic chicken I just opened looks like (except my package was 1.3 kg):

RS, thanks for that. I didn't know that those 3 labels were different. I'll take much more care to get the green one whenever I can!

I just buy the free range chicken (dojong-dak). It's leaner and tastier.

Sorry to get off the chicken conversation but here goes.....

I was buying a tall bottle of Yogurt (can't recall the name at this moment-n. european sounding) that seemed truly "plain" at Lotte.

The other day I went in and it seems to have been taken out of the area for yogurt - haven't seemed to see it make a comeback either. I'm not seeing this at HomePlus either.

Anyone know what I'm talking about brand wise or know if it can be bought anywhere else?

Thanks.

Don't know what one that is, but if it's plain yogurt that really is plain that you're looking for, Denmark makes a very good plain yogurt though unfortunately they only sell it in very small "individual" cups. I use it as a starter for making my own.

Yeah, I just picked up a fourpack of that last night. The other bottle was big enough I didn't even consider buying it any other way. I do think the brand was Denmark also.

I made some yogurt back in the states using a thermos so I think I'll try the Denmark cups as starter yogurts.

BTW, thanks for responding.

There is a pretty good plain yogurt being sold at the Foreigner's Market in Itaewon. It comes in a plastic quart container. It's typically in the back left side~in the fridge. Very good for starter.
