Well, are you planning on being in Korea for a while? If so, then you might want to invest in a small coffee roaster. I paid 170000won for a few years ago. It's paid for itself many times over.
Green coffee beans range in price from 8000won to 15000won per kg, with most decent quality beans costing around 10000won/kg. |

I get mine at Costco for several reasons:
1. convenience since I'm there for many other food items anyway.
2. USDA Organic - there are two; one whole beans and one ground. I used to buy the whole beans but finally tried the ground one and it was just as good.
3. the organic is about as cheap as the non-organic - around 16 to 18k for a 2-pound bag, I think.
Yes, I know you said "that's not Costco," but Costco is the only place I buy organic coffee. I'm guessing that organic is more expensive elsewhere. |

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: most of the coffee that isn't grown in large automated farms (namely the ones in Brazil) is organically grown. Coffee is grown in remote areas by farmers who can't afford or don't have access to chemical fertilizer. So, you're essentially paying a premium for that little USDA sticker.
We buy fair trade coffee instead. It's still organically grown, and the farmers got a fair price for their beans. |

Where is this? I've been getting beans at E-mart and they're insanely expensive. |

Go to http://shopping.naver.com and search for 커피로스터기 and coffee roaster.
Be careful, some of the items listed will be coffee coolers (to cool the beans after they've been roasted) and coffee grinders. |

| If you want cheap roasted beans that don't taste like stale cigarette butts, the Costco House Blend is it. We bought some recently because we need to get our roaster repaired. We were pleasantly surprised. It was a very nice blend and the coffee was relatively fresh. |

For fair trade specialty Nepalese and Chilean beans:

The prices have really gone up on those beans in the last two years, though.
I've checked the other stores I used to order from, and the prices are just as high there.
So, if you want something more affordable, do a search for 커피생두 at shopping.naver.com. Click on the icon labeled 낮은가격순 to order the prices from the lowest to the highest. Be careful, 로부스타 is robusta coffee. You probably don't want that. Also, some sellers charge as much for just 500 g as others charge for 1kg.
You can also do the same search at auction.co.kr, gmarket, 11st, etc.
You'll get a much better deal if you buy 5kg at a time, so you might want to do a search for 커피생두 5kg.

I ended up buying a kilo of the tesco brand at home plus... Haven't tried it yet, but hopefully it's not too bad. It was only 16K for a kg. How about in shops? I live in a gated villa without a security guard so arranging shipping is always a pain.
Any coffee shops sell their own roast for a reasonable price? |

| Was at the kims club at garden 5 today near bokjeong station. They had a good variety of different beans and after talking with the staff was assured that they will roast beans upon request (haven't tried it yet). The packages all had roasting dates marked on them. |
