Despite finishing a distant 4th in South Carolina - to impressively surging master-debater Newt Gingrich - Ron Paul delivered his usual upbeat speech to devoted supporters. Meanwhile, Wall Street backers of Mit Romney must be worried about his inability to defend his (and their) business dealings/tax havens, while most Christian politicos back Rick Santorum's bid for a miraculous upset. It's an interesting final four now that the inevitability of Romney's getting the nomination has been shaken - mostly by Gingrich's "red meat" appeal to the bigoted core of the party, who now see him (and his dirty fighting style) as the next great White Hope.

Ugh... Newt Gingrich is just such an awful excuse for a human being. I can understand why some people might be conned into voting for a slick corporate package like Romney (who at least puts on a decent front), but that a tried and true scumbag like Gingrich could still have any support at all truly boggles my mind... |

I don't know why people are surprised: candidates like Romney and Gingrich are exactly the types of people most Republicans vote for. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a combination of business-friendly Northeast Republican Romney with a southern Gingrich wouldn't make the best ticket for the Republican Party.
On the other hand, I am surprised that all of Ron Paul's criticism of the Civil Rights Act of '64 didn't attract more of a southern vote. Maybe, Paul's idealism prevents him from really courting votes. |

It doesn't prevent him from taking money from racist groups though...doubt it stops him from courting votes. Plus if the Southern vote is as racist as you apparently think...how did Obama ever get into office? |

If I send in a check to the RP campaign are they morally obligated to vet me or can they just cash it and go forward?
Do you figure this should be a requirement of all campaigns? Maybe I want to run for town selectman. The same rule/moral obligation should apply to my campaign as well? |

Very few Southern states were in play for Obama in the last election. Only states like Virginia and Florida which have a lot of displaced northerners were really in play.
And, yes, candidates should vet organizations that send them money. Individuals, of course, would be impossible. I think if a presidential candidate took money from an openly racist organization, it would be front page news and the candidate would be asked a lot of questions about it. |

Interesting bit of news I just noticed from the New Hampshire primary.
On the Democratic side, Obama got 81% of the vote - a lower percentage and 30,000 fewer votes than Clinton running in '96.
Finishing in 2nd place, as a write in, at 4% was Ron Paul.
So, Ron Paul finished 2nd in both the Democrat and the Republican primaries in New Hampshire. |

^ And that is why RP has the best chance of beating BO.
There are Facebook groups (Dems4RonPaul, DemocratsforRonPaul) and, of course, www.democratsforronpaul.com. |

So the corporate wh0re media publishes just another worthless hit piece, totally lacking in substance, and you actually believe it? I thought you had a bit more discerning than that...
Gotta love this little gem:
Quote: |
A person involved in Pauls businesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid criticizing a former employer, said Paul and his associates decided in the late 1980s to try to increase sales by making the newsletters more provocative. They discussed adding controversial material, including racial statements, to help the business, the person said. |
So they're basing their accusations on the account of anonymous, unconfirmed source. Gee, how convenient, and how convincing... Maybe next time they could try quoting the Easter Bunny instead? |

Really? Does Renae Hathway sound like an anonymous, unconfirmed source?
Quote: |
It was his newsletter, and it was under his name, so he always got to see the final product. . . . He would proof it, said Renae Hathway, a former secretary in Pauls company and a supporter of the Texas congressman. |

Sounds like hearsay, probably taken out of context; and regardless it's not proof of anything.
Can't you recognize a hit piece when you see it? |

Okay. How about this. I pass up the temptation to lecture you on what hearsay is, and we just go our separate ways, and agree to disagree? |

How about you actually provide PROOF for the claims being made? (that RP is "racist" and a "liar). Would that be too much to ask?
You can believe the Washington Post if you want, but surely we can agree that they didn't prove anything in that article. In fact, I'd be willing to bet if anyone is lying, it's them. If it's just more slander, I guess we'll have to wait for the RP camp to refute it, as they usually do. |
