Well I just interviewed with Footprints.. They asked if anyone was going with me to Korea.. My daughter is.. Should I have even told them? I am so confused about what to say!! I could tell that was a definite hindrance and probably kicked me out of the running! HELP! It this a worthless idea?

If you really want to do it you won't need Footprints.

Footprints is just a recruiting company, not some kind of gatekeeper. If they drop you just find another.

Find another recruiter (don't say any thing), bring your daughter, then get an F-3 visa for her in Korea.

Was the recruiting for SMOE?

Unless the policy changed recently, SMOE has been known to reject applicants that use multiple recruiters.

eg, Someone applies to SMOE through Footprints AND WorkNPlay, SMOE will reject the applicant.

That was the case a few years ago, not sure if it is still the case now.

But as far as I understand, Footprints has their own interview before they send your application anywhere. If that's the case, then she is fine even for public schools.

On an off-note- What's the deal with calling the company "Footprints"??? You're recruiting teachers, not kindergarten camp field trips.

WorkNPlay isn't any better...

As if we aren't already portrayed enough as juvenile...

I'd think twice about coming to Korea to work in ESL with a kid. Unless you're loaded, what school is the kid going to attend, and well, life in Korea can be tough enough as it is single but with a kid? Hmm...

I came to Korea in 2009 with my husband (a full-time student) and son (then 10 months old). I was hired directly by my employer and didn't tell them about my family situation until I had a job offer. It worked out fine for us.

OP, I suggest you check out this forum for more information about parenting in Korea: http://expatparents.50.forumer.com/

Good luck!

Don't sweat it. There's reason behind the idiosyncrasy. They were named with Korean employers in mind, and so the names are meant to be as nonthreatening as possible in the eyes of Koreans who are more anxious about English than they are fluent in it. Names which seem more professional in the eyes of the applicants would be far too intimidating to the prospective employers.

And if SMOE rejected you, that's probably good news. Why board a sinking ship? (SMOE, not Korea).

Good luck. You'll find a way.
