I don't see any flat sheets here, only fitted sheets, expensive at E-Mart (which I bought for lack of an alternative). Plus lots of repeititive thin quilts, besides the thick quilts. What goes between me and the upper quilt? Confused. Are those thin quilts washable and used as upper sheets? Why would one go to the trouble of washing such a bulky thing regularly instead of just washing a sheet?

I learned this in China, and I think it is the same in Korea, but they have zipper "sleeping bag" style bedding. Think of a pillow case. You aren't washing the whole quilt, you buy 2 coverings and wash ONLY the outside of one while using the other.

Thanks. Not sure if that is applicable. I saw no coverings in the departments store either, and this is not like a big fluffy Japanese futon with cover. It's a thinner, cheaper sort of quilt. Still puzzled.

GMarket has much, much better prices than EMart.

I second the Gmarket shopping. I've bought higher end 100% cotton sheets (fitted+duvet cover+2 pillow cases) that are used in the Hyat Hotels here for 80,000. Not cheap but they are nice to sleep on. I've also bought cheaper bedding as well on the site.

I knew I was going to be here for more than a year. So, I had my mom buy a couple of bed sheets and ship them over. I've been sleeping on western style cotton bed sheets ever since. (Quite a few years ago now.) Screw the Korean quilts. Don't know why motels have cotton bedding but can't be bought locally. Oh well, whatever floats their boat.

We usually get the "bed in a bag" thing at Walmart before coming back over here.

I dont mind the Korean style, its simple. Thin quilt under, heavier quilt over (lighter in summer). Launder occasionally. I sleep comfily on a mat on the floor.
