I don't remember the details offhand, but there are huge tax breaks too if you live in an area that qualifies for Northern Living allowance. I think it's about half.

I can be bought, but I'm not sure you could pay me to live in Yellowknife.

The big money is a lot further north than that.

Some of the places that qualify for Northern Living Allowance aren't that remote and are only a couple hours drive from a regional airport, and might even be communities that have all the basic amenities you could want like a grocery store, movie theatre, etc. It seems to be what the OP is looking for so all the power to him if he can qualify for a visa.
