Hi there
Just wondering if anyone can help me find the answer to, or has any information on the following:
I am a British citizen, but I became a Canadian resident in August 2010. During my last year in Korea I paid into the pension, but unlike Canadian's, who can get their pension once they leave, I got a letter stating I can get it in 2047. However, since I became a Canadian resident after the fact, can I claim it early?
Also, if I was to apply for an E-2 visa now, would I use the UK guidelines or Canadian guidelines or a mixture of both, i.e. I'd need my UK degree notarized from the UK, but criminal record check from Canada?
Any information on this would be very much appreciated. |

Until you actually get a Canadian passport to go with your PR card you get to follow the rules like any other UK citizen (including your pension refund).

cam82,
My situation is a bit different, and you also haven't been in Canada for that long, but I thought I would mention this because it might be good to know for the future:
I'm an American citizen who spent the past 6 years in Canada, and I recently applied for an E-2 Visa with my Canadian diploma and the FBI criminal record check. My application was denied by Korean Immigration on the grounds of a new regulation which apparently requires me to provide a Canadian background check either in adidtion to, or instead of my American one. The time frame they stated was "two years", which I suppose means that this doesn't apply to you (yet), so you should be safe.
It was a very frustrating road block to encounter, and something which I hadn't read about anywhere online, so I thought I would mention it... |
