Hi! Recently I just finished reading all the books of David Sedaris. I enjoyed them a lot and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for similar reading material.

I really liked Sedaris because his books were broken down into essays which could be read intermittently. I usually read on the subway or bus, so small little essays are great for me to read. I can start and finish one in one trip, and don't have to feel invested in a story or narrative.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like short essays that are witty/comical.

Thanks!

Will Self's 'Junk Mail' is a good read. Basically, if you don't know, he was a junkie, so it's mainly about the theme of writing and drugs and other wirters who were drug users etc.

Likewise Martin Amis' 'The War Against Cliche' - though it IS dated. His 'The Moronic Inferno' is ok too. Not a fan of his novels though, but if you like that whole metafictional / self aware style, you might well like 'Money' and 'London Fields,' the latter being his only good book imho. In money there is one funny scene where the main character plays a game of chess with the author Martin Amis. On the whole the book was crud though (though critically aclaimed.)

David Rakoff is pretty good..."Fraud", "Don't Get Too Comfortable", and "Half-Empty" are collections of essays in the same vein as Sedaris.

There's also David Foster Wallace's "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again." The essays are longer, but worth it. The best one is about his luxury cruise ship vacation. It's laugh-out-loud funny.

Anything written by Chuck Klosterman. The guy's hilarious and possibly a genius.
