I am on an E-2 visa which will expire in September. I will start a new position in March. I have a letter of release, and all documents needed, except a criminal check. As this will be a university credit course position, I will probably be changing to an E-1 visa. I have lived in Korea since my last criminal check, and as such a new check won't show anything new. So, will they request one? These things take time....

As long as it was a National check or accepted by the Consulate. I think you will not need another one. Actually. September, October, .... March. Actually that looks like 6 months. I think that is past the 90 day leeway immigration gives.

Still if you can get away without getting another one, then do so. But I would recommend getting one just in case. Better to get one and not need it. Then to not get one and have everything go haywire for lack of it.

Isn't there a background check you can get done here in Korea for your time in Korea? One that checks Korea's records?

I'd try giving them that and a copy of the last one I used to get a visa (the one for the US). If they say no....Oh well....

My situation may or may not be similar, but...

I am on an E2 and transferring to a uni job. Immi already had my apostilled diplomas and CBC on file.

I have verified this twice with immi and the uni has done it also.

I requested to stay on me E2 and not change to an E1. As such, I do not need new documents. I simply need;

application
ARC
passport
new contract
schools "license"

easy peasy.

I got three uni offers and all said they would let me keep my E2 versus move to an E1.

So...after a Korean called immigration on my behalf, it seems that no matter what my visa is going to be, new job = new visa = new copies of documents!

So, i looked on the UK CRB website, and i need utility bills. The problem is, i have been in Korea for 5 years, and as such all my bills are written in Hangul. which menas that unless The UK CRB people can read Korean, they are useless. In order to get a crb done, i have to prove my current address, but as this isn't in the UK, or in English i have no idea how this information can: A, get me a criminal disclosure, or B, tell immigartion any information that wasn't shown 3 years ago when i submitted the last form.

Any ideas people?

What are you doing for the time in between September and March? Working? Looking for a job?

Unless you are on a Visa in that time, then you will have to get new paperwork.

Yes renewal/transfer is an option but I am surprised and highly doubt a place will hire you 6 months ahead. Plus most places are not that proactive or prepared. Ya maybe a place might do a hire a couple months ahead of time hire/ hold visa.

Also stop expecting logic from the government! You may not have been back home in five years. New visa will mean new paperwork. And sorry a Korean criminal record check will not cut it.

Yes, immi has changed some rules that if you leave Korea and come back you have 90 days before you have to get a new CRC. But September to March is over the limit.

I have also heard a D-10/looking for work is visa is doable. But once again time limited, 30 days?

Also I think you are making you UK Criminal Record check to complicated. There is very likely an option for people who live overseas.

There have been a few people post on here about getting a Basic Disclosure by pretending to still be living in the UK. Just use your parent's address as I'm sure you have something with your name and address on it that gets sent there (bank letters or anything like that are acceptable). I've just got a new one after being in Korea. I have nothing that comes to my parent's house as all my banking is done online. I ended up having to go to the local health centre to get a copy of a prescription that I had just received and used that. It worked.

I think you misunderstood. My visa runs until september 2012, but the new job starts March 2012. I will litterally finishing work on a Friday, and 9 days later, i will be starting the next position. The uni i'm at now have given me a letter of release, but immigration still want new paperwork!
