|
|
We are so angry and annoyed. The FBI wrote "January 11, 2011" on my boyfriend's CBC instead of 2012. He is now waiting for them to send him the new one but they are taking so long to do it. How hard is it to change a 1 to a 2 and reprint it and mail it? They said they can't send it out until next week but we are so worried. All my docs are in already and I am scared that I am going to get there and his docs won't be processed. I'm scared that this hagwon is going to call off his employment because he was supposed to start March 1 and now that date is pretty much impossible.
Has anyone had any experience with the FBI screwing up on their CBC? How long did it take for them to send you a new one?
Anyone that can tell me something that will make us feel better would be much appreciated
My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years so anything that happens to him affects me and vice versa so even though it's not happening to me, it feels like it is. I hate to see him upset and angry. It's really not fair that their bs might cost him his job. |

If they get the FBI check to you next week (7 days), you can courier it to Korea (4-5 days) , you'll get a number within 10 days [7 + 5 + 10 + 2 for unforseen = 24 days] and you can grab your visa from the Korean consulate by going there yourself (they do that on the spot). You definitely have enough time to do this. I did it in a similar time frame in 2008. Just get everything ready to go last minute and try not to stress too much because I guarantee you, your hagwon boss probably won't give a crap until the day before his classes start. I'm fairly confident that it is probable that you will get your visa issued on time, if not, he can do a visa run to Fukuoka whilst entering the country on a tourist visa (the hag-won boss probably dealt with a visa run before.)
In the meantime just explain to the hagwon boss that the document was misprinted and the FBI are sending another and you are really looking forward to working there. Don't put any other junk in that mail just make it plain and to the point so he can easily understand the English. It is very normal for things to be stitched together last minute in Korea (I'm not sure if this is your first job here) |

You're forgetting about the apostille. |

Communicate with the boss, I'd say. Scan the mistake. Show him the error. Perhaps, he can get a foreign teacher in the area to teach for a week or two until her partner can make it. I hope it works out well for them. It's unfortunate when human error seriously puts people on edge like that. |

Damn, yeah forgot about that. In the UK the turnaround time is 2-3 days. What's it like in the US?
I reckon it's still doable in a month as long as US Apostilles have a reasonably quick turnaround time. |

Oh dear. Never mind, the current hagwon owner might be willing to delay the start date; I would bet the hagwon owner will delay the start date for the OP's BF as it's going to be a huge pain for him to go through the whole process with someone else. |

The apostille only takes one business day (plus express shipping, so an extra 2 days for that) because he is using uslegalization.com and the hagwon already has a temp teacher working. The recruiter asked the temp teacher if he could stay until my bf gets there and he said yes. So we aren't too worried anymore. It is just ridiculous that someone made that dumb of an error.
Though, unfortunately we are from Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida which are both over 10 hours away from the nearest Korean consulate in Atlanta. Last time I just flew to D.C. for mine and we went to New York for his because it was more affordable (we had people to stay with) but back then the visa interview was required. This time neither of us can afford any plane ticket. And screw Atlanta... I'm not driving there and I doubt he will want to either. We will probably just have to mail our passports express to Atlanta. Why is there not a Korean consulate in Miami? |

It sounds like there's no problem now then. |

I don't think you should worry about timing as long as you talk to the boss. They don't want to put so much effort into finding a substitute either!
On a tangential note, I am going to use uslegalization for the first time and I would love it if you could clarify something for me--
When you filled out the online request form, did you put the school's name under "company name" and their address or yours? It seemed a little vague about what they wanted. Also, what kind of mail/envelope did you use? I'd appreciate any info!
Sorry to hear about such a dumb typo. Good luck! I don't think you'll need it though.
Edit: Oh, I somehow didn't notice that bit about the temp teacher. That's good then. I'd really suggest trying to go to the Korean Consulate in person if it's at all possible though. Mailing passports can be kind of scary! |

The nearest Korean consulate is 14 hours away by car :\
Either that or I pay $150 to fly to D.C. (I have pepople to stay with there and I don't in Atlanta). Or Express shipping with tracking.
Might just go to D.C.
I didn't use uslegalization. I used usauthentication. My boyfriend is using uslegalization. usauthentication is more expensive and I didn't know it when I sent mine. I'm sure it doesn't matter though. I'd say use your address, not the school's. |

I just got my FBI CBC back and it has the SAME error... It says 1/7/2011 instead of 1/7/2012. This is ridiculous, considering how long it takes to process this document... and that I'm in Korea, but I need a new FBI CBC by next week to keep my job.
I'm curious, OP, what did you do to fix the problem? Did you call the FBI? Are they willing to expedite the process? What about the apostille?
This sucks. |

I am SO sorry this had to happen to you too. What idiots!!!! I can't believe it. Luckily, my boyfriend had sent in two orders for his FBI check because he thought that one of them was smeared and wanted to be safe. It turned out that he got that one about 5 business days before he got the corrected one back! SO RIDICULOUS! So the corrected one became irrelevant. But what he did was... he called the FBI and told them about the error. They told him to fax it to prove that the error is there and then they work on fixing it and sending you a new one which takes two weeks. Both my boyfriend and I just paid for a courier service for the apostille.
Thankfully, my boyfriend didn't lose his job and his documents are now being processed by immigration. I just received my visa number tonight so all is well with us.
I'm so sorry Hopefully you can get it figured out. Could you do a visa run to Japan? |
