Hi quick visa question ,any help would be greatly appreciated.
My Korean fiance and I plan to go to England to marry next month because our baby is due in september. I wish to apply for an F6 visa while I am there. We will need some proof we are married in korea, can the korean embassy in london provide this or am I screwed? |
IF you are NOT getting married in Korea and plan to come back with an F6 then PROVIDED your wife has all her documentation (register, etc) the K-consulate in the UK will accept your English wedding cert as proof of a family relationship.
If you want to get here faster, return on a tourist stamp and change your status here. Again, Kimmi will accept the UK issued marriage cert as proof of the family relationship.

To jump on to this post, my finance and I are planning on tying the knot at the end of Feb and then taking an extended honeymoon. With the costs of this and apartment key money, I don't have much left.
So are "Documents that prove the financial capability" always required and what is the minimum amount? Also would a receipt from a landlord by acceptable? |

ttompatz you are a man of deep knowledge. My situation is i am on a Tourist visa here. i would like to change to an F6 visa. We are married in Korea but not married in the UK. I was told that i could make the change to an F6 if i go to a korean consulate in Japan, but it now seems that they want a marriage certificate from the UK. Not one that has been translated and sent but a real one issued in the UK. Is that i have to take mywife to the UK and marry her there so that i can get an F6 visa? All the different info is driving me crazy. |

IF she is Korean AND you married in Korea you can change your status in Korea PROVIDED it was registered at the UK embassy.
If it was not registered then your choices are:
Register it.
Go to the UK and get married again.
Stay as a tourist.

is that possible?
i'm in the same situation as Jonesphant - I got married here to a Korean and we registered it with the UK embassy.
Immigration told me that i needed a marriage cert from the UK despite not getting married there. I've had to translate my korean one and send it through the embassy to the uk then get it returned.
not saying you're wrong or anything, just it's the first i've heard of this.
edit - i'm actually on an E-2 visa, not a tourist |

ttompatz I know you are the expert on this stuff, but I think you may be mistaken this time. It's not possible to change from tourist visa to F-6 in Korea (unless things have very recently changed). You can go from E-2 to F-6 or any other visa type to F-6, but not 90 day tourist stamp to F-6. I think the OP either needs to make a run to Japan or go home to the UK. |

Also is it better to get married in the UK or Korea in the eyes of Korean immigration?
Thanks in advance for any advice. |

The 90 day stamp is NOT a tourist visa. It is NO visa.

You're certainly right about that, but here's what you said....

Then what is a 90 day stamp? |
Entry under a visa waiver program.
It does however convey a status of sojourn for the purposes of tourism.
An actual tourist (correctly: Short-term general (단기종합) <90 day stay) visa is a C3.
