An American has been teaching at the same university in Korea for several years, and then is going to take a new position at a different university in Korea. He has had his contract renewed several times at that university, and has not left Korea for years. When he got his visa for the current university he went to Japan and got the Visa. It was multiple entry. That, however, was 3 years ago. Now because of the new job he is taking in spring, he needs to go back to Japan for a new Visa. Does he need to go to immigration in Korea and get something in his passport or else not be able to go to Japan for his new Visa run? I was wondering because the multiple entery part in his visa in his passport has long expired. But, because he is going to Japan just to get a new Visa and then come right back to Korea, does he just go to Japan, or does he need some kind of "stamp" from Korean immigration here in Korea to go on the new vias run to Japan?

Thank you,
Chicken

E1 or E2 visa (NOT an F-visa) then hand in the ARC on the way out of Korea.
Go to the consulate in Japan.
Apply for the new visa. (need visa confirmation number, application, passport photo, passport, fee).
Return to Korea. Enter and activate the new visa.
Go to work.
Get new ARC within 90 days of returning on the new visa.

It DOES beg the question why a new visa?

It would have been MUCH simpler to do a visa transfer from one job to the other (provided both jobs are the same visa class).

Simple trip to immigration, application, ARC, passport, new contract, fees (60k+30k), business registration and letter of guarantee (sponsorship form).
Done in 30 minutes.

He has a D-10. He was E-1 Visa, and new job is E-1 Visa. Does he then just give the D-10 to them at the Korean airport?

He also was wondering about transfer. Is it too late becasue of getting the D-10. And, if one can do such a transfer, does that happen at the immigration office that is for the new university?

On a D10 = no need for a visa run.

Simple application for a change of status from D10 to E1.

Go to the immigration office with the paperwork (same as a transfer).

Do you mean go to the immigration office that is the one for the new university?
