I'm going in March for Incheon after my recruiter had me thinking I was going in February. Glad I didn't book a flight. I don't know when March Orientation is though. |

| I've applied direct through EPIK so they're really good at keeping you informed. After you've received your final confirmation how long does it take to receive your NOA and contract usually? |

I've received my residency certificate, well its actually just a letter stating that you're resident of the UK. You need to send the tax people a letter requesting it. I got mine back in about 3-4 weeks.
If you send me your email address then ill sent you the template of the letter you need to send them.
Are you on facebook? If so you should really join the EPIK SPRING 2012 group. Its such a useful group!! It was on there that someone gave me the template letter cos like you I had no idea where to begin with all this stuff |

But you will be taxed in the UK? Do you have to get a residency certificate? I was under the impression I could choose to pay tax in Korea and then not be taxed in the UK. |

| pandie, the residency certificate means you wont be taxed while working in Korea. Its not a case of you opting to be taxed in Korea instead of the UK. You cant be taxed in the UK if your not living and working there. |

|
|
Hey guys, my recruiter just sent me this information about some place called the Arrival Store, anyone ever heard of/used that?
http://www.thearrivalstore.com/featured-products/arrival-pro-package.html
I don't know if it's a good deal, but it might be worth it just for the convenience of not having to hunt up a voltage converter and blankets and a cell phone all at once... |

I've been wondering about this, specifically the mobile phone. It sounds like it's cheaper to wait until you get your ARC, then get a mobile in Korea, but it's probably worth the extra money to save the hassle.
No converter required for UK stuff
Edit: Just remembered, there's a relevant (short) thread here: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=216130 |

I think it is a waste of cash and a bit ridiculous that recruiters are encouraging people to go and purchase it.
The cell phone is useful but easy and cheaper to obtain once you arrive in Korea. Get an international phone card from a convenience store and use landlines until you get one.
The plug adaptor costs about a dollar and is easily available.
The power converter is probably not needed for a lot of people and again, is easy and cheap to find once your there.
The linen, pillows etc will probably be provided by your school. If not...easy and cheap to obtain once you arrive.
The cleaning kit is just silly...easy and cheap to find that stuff everywhere.
If you arrive and find that you urgently need any of this stuff just ask the person from your school who picks you up to take you to a store to buy it, or go for a walk around your neighbourhood and buy it yourself.
No need to fork out $244.49 in advance. |

My recruiter did the same. I'm not going to waste my money. |

| I got the sales call today from Arrival Store. Nice enough chap on the phone, but I think it's all unnecessary, apart from possibly the mobile phone. I'm really not sure. Would be nice to have a phone at the airport when I arrive, but is it worth the cost? Hmmm... |

| I noticed on fb that people were talking about gifts for their co-teachers and higher ups when they arrive in Korea. I know that it is customary to bring gifts in the Far East, but I wouldn't know where to begin? What are any of you bringing? |

| I'm bringing some jars of organic Hawaiian honey and different types of local snacks... wasn't too sure on how many gifts to bring, but was guessing at one for my co-teacher(s), one for the principal/my supervisor, and maybe one more just in case. I don't think it has to be too expensive. |
