Every few months we see someone starting a "I want to volunteer thread".

How about volunteering NOT to start another one of these mundane threads, and using the search function instead.

@NoPlainJane,

The KMPL would be a good place to start. Their site has a few links to other nature and conservation groups in Korea. There's quite a few groups that are Facebook based as well. It takes a while to find them. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of them.

The fact that it pops up every couple months suggests that it might be a good idea to make it a sticky.

How do they distinguish volunteering as opposed to just hanging out? Spend a few hours here, a few hours there, don't stay in one place for a whole year. Hey, that rhymes Wink

These 2 sites have a decent amount of volunteer opportunities:

http://www.korea4expats.com/article-volunteer-in-seoul.html
http://hiexpat.com/korea-blog/volunteer-opportunities-in-korea.html

I would also be interested to know if there are any shorter-term ways to volunteer in Seoul or the surrounding areas. Anyone else know of any other volunteer opportunities?

What areas would you like to volunteer in? Teaching? Helping the homeless?

I'd like to do some volunteering (preferably with conservation or agriculture if it's available) when I get to Korea. I've heard that you're not supposed to work a second job because it's outside the contract with the first employer, but that shouldn't apply to volunteering, right?

I've heard you're technically not allowed, though I'm guessing the enforcement is non-existent. Pretty pitiful visa restriction if it is true.

Ah don't mind this thread and that is coming from one of the orniest b*stards out there. This topic does not come up often enough to bother me - unlike another
F-Series asking how to get a criminal record check because the just found out things changed,
OR another please tell me a good recruiter,
OR how how do I teach kindergartens?
OR how do I get a CRC, visa renewal, severance or one other million of the FAQs.

As to legality. I think you will be fine. The opinion keeps changing of yes you have to inform immi to no they do not care. I lean towards inform. Still overal immi does not care much. Just be aware that if you piss off the wrong person it can be used against you.

There are many opportunities out there to help. So will be short time, other may want more of a commitment.

Animal Shelter Group like "Animal Rescue Korea"
Orphanages. Each city will have one that needs help.
Foreigner centers - can always need another teacher or some one to help out the 3D workers.

As to the search here it work but it is tricky. Some alternatives is to try www.searcheslcafe.com or site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea "WORDS LOOKING FOR" with Google.

Check out facebook, some pop up there.

Good Luck.
