I wouldn't sign anything.
If they ask why, I'd say because they did not give 30 days notice and my contract would end before the 30 days is over anyway. That I wasn't going to sign anything that did not fit labor law and might put my severance pay in jeopardy.
At this point, I'd tell them that if I don't get severance pay, I'll be filing a grievance with the labor board.
I might say that I'd be willing to forfiet 1 day's pay for the classes I missed, but I will file a grievance beyond that. |

ALSO RECORD! You can be surprised at what they will try. Some schools have even threatened violence. So figure out you handphone or have your digital camera near by.
Have a friend! He might just wait outside, but you want a witness if they decide to get difficult. |

Very important!!!
Where does it say that that you must get severance at the end of the year??? Is this a law for E2 visa holders?
Does every teacher automatically get severance, no matter the contract. My contract does say I'm entitled to severance.
I want to have a Law i can recite when i'm in the meeting. |

Have you read the link for the labor law?
Maybe someone can quote the section again, but the website isn't hard to navigate using the headings.
There are some stipulations about not paying severance - some based on number of workers or so on. But, I've never heard of a hakwon employing a foreign teacher matching them.
They owe you severance by law for 12 months service. |

It is the law. Everyone that works a full 365 days must be paid 1 month's salary. However, you didn't work that so that's why this is will have to go to the labor board. Your boss already knows the law I'm sure, hence you were fired a few days short of it. This is clearly a 11th month firing. His mistake, (forgetting to fire you last month) is going to cost him and benefit you.
Have you done anything which would require an immediate termination? Have you been recently arrested or started drinking soju in class? If you answer no to the above two questions, you will win, don't worry. However, signing anything now can only hurt your chances so don't do it. Just mention labor board and he might just give in. Otherwise, just grab the letter of dismissal he made, tell him you'll think about it, and bring that copy with you to the labor board. It can be used as evidence against him. Good luck. |

| Your boss is a con artist looking to get out of paying severance. Don't bother trying to negotiate just move on to a new job and go straight to the labour office. |

The hot water has been out for 2 days at my officetel and it is a nice place. I guess those pipes froze.
Had to go the public bath - which isn't as fun since I got Lasik eye surgery... |
