|
|
My brother is coming into town and we're going to Hongdae on Tuesday night.
Any foreigner or a good mixture of Korean and Western style that bar that sells Soju?
Any good places like that to recommend? |

You do know that soju is 1000 won a bottle, don't you?
I'd call that liquer a 'hooch', something cheaper than a 'plonk'.
If a bar serves hooch or plonk, then it's seedy and definately not nice.
However, thing to do in Korea is go to a mart, buy some soju and paper cups, and drink them at the tables provided outside. That is the Korean custom. |

On my way back to Korea in a couple of weeks, having taken a year off back in my home country. You just reminded me of one of the true pleasures of Korean life! The Family Mart drinking sess. |

You're 1/3 - Wa and Ho Bar don't sell soju. |

Just hit up one of the meat restaurants. There are a bunch on the non-insane side of the walking street. Others scattered about elsewhere. I'd recommend one but things like this change fast in Hongdae and I haven't gone there in a while.
Take a peek around Hongdae-bound Sangsu. I heard there are a few Korean-oriented joints around there. Again, I haven't been in that area for quite a while, so can't recommend anything in particular, but I did hit up a place by the station for dongdongju several years back that was nice.
Or, yes, I do know one specific bar. From the park, with the uni gate to your back and facing walking street, take your third left (same alley that has Freebird) and walk down a bit. On the right side, there's a semi-traditional looking Korean bar. It's my standby when people can't decide where to go. Good for getting Korean food and throwing back some soj. |

| There is a street between Sangsu and Hapjeong that serves Jeon- on the wide street with cars parked in the middle at the bottom of the hill- look for 행복전. That place is def Korean-ish and they serve the hooch. |

Unless you're at a really upscale bar like The Timber House at the Park Hyatt, where there is a variety of middle- and top-shelf Soju available. |
