I've got 10,000,000KRW hanging around in a term deposit right now. I think it makes about 5%PA. It is coming to term and I am thinking of putting it somewhere where it will get a higher return (albeit with a higher risk).
Any ideas? Some guy told me Korea is starting to mine Tungsten. With China's insatiable demand for metals I was considering that. |

Property. Especially in the area of Gyeongi-do South of Seoul.
Future plans for Seoul is to make it a megaropolis. It will stretch from Ilsan in the North to Anyang in the South. Everything in between will be urban. You can look at a map and see them filling in the blank spaces daily. Whoever owns the empty land between Seoul proper and Anyang is going to be a very very rich man in a decade or so. |

i'm not so sure about this. the population of korea is going down, not up. there might not be the demand for people to occupy those spaces.
like someone else said about tungsten, in a related field check out rare earth metals. if you can get some at a good price and hold for a while you will make a fortune. |

Oil futures? With the embargo on Iran and the political instability in the middle east, I suspect prices will go up.
Where are you parking your money that gets you 5% interest? |

You may be right or you may be wrong about the investment in property. But you won't find out either way with just 10 million to invest. |

10 mil won is barely enough for a deposit to rent. |

Don't listen to the naysayers! Use your 10 mill and buy a 1' x 1' piece of land. Then refuse to sell unless they give you one billion! Like this guy, only on a much, much smaller scale:

Otherwise, buy lots of lotto scratchers. |

put down on a deposit on a house back home,
put down 10 grand, get some tenants in the house to pay the mortgage off for you, 20 years from now it's paid off.. repeat the process every few years and your retirement is set..
call your bank! |

While good in theory, the practice seems unrealistic. I know I wouldn't want to buy property without looking at it first, and a trip to the US would cut a good chunk out of his savings.
On top of that, being a landlord in another country would be a pain in the ass. He'd need to get a building manager, and that alone might sap any profits he'd be making.
Also, 10g's isn't enough for a down payment on anything but a condo.
I'm also interested in where the op made 5%, since that's a pretty good return. |

| I'll play you heads-up poker for it and I'll give you 2 to 1, meaning for every won you put into a pot, I have to double it. |

That would mean if I wanted to raise I would have to match your double and then some. Obviously there is no real advantage for me here. How about I get 3 down cards to your 2. Also, I want to see your cash before we start.

How about his chips cost him double for the same amount. I think that's what he means. |

Yup. I buy-in for 20k, he pays only 10k. We both get the same ammount of chips. We play until one person has won all the chips.
Either that or a non winner-take-all but when we play blinds, you pay 5usd small blind and 10usd big blind and I'll pay 10usd small blind and 20usd big blind.
I'm not kidding. I'll do it. As long as you're an average guy and I haven't seen you propping for any of the casinos. |
