|
|
I'm getting ready to go to Korea to teach through the EPIK Program and the first thing on the schedule is a week long orientation. Has anyone done this before? Can you give me an idea of what to expect, what it will be like, or anything I should do to prepare? I'd appreciate any experience you can relate or advice you can give. |

It's like the first week of college in a sense. A bunch of new people lots of classes. Not really sure what you are doing. Or at least it was for me.
Its a pretty easy few days, lots of classes but no failing unless you don't show up. Good place to meet people and get questions answered.
Do the online pre-orientation before you go and then you'll know pretty much what they'll be on about in the classes. It's much the same.
Best of luck! |

Thank you! I haven't been given any info on an online pre-orientation yet so I'll look for that. I'm glad to hear its not very stressful, I was worried that there would be some kind of test involved or something. |

Multiple tests...
i) Can you get up in the morning (sober) test.
ii) can you come to class sober, on time and not smelling like booze test
iii) Can you stay sober enough that you don't trash your room, damage the facility, shoot the fire extinguishers or puke in the lobby test.
iv) can you refrain from passing out drunk in the flower bed test.
v) Can you eat kimchi test.
vi) Can you ....
You get the picture and that was NOT tongue in cheek. All those things have happened MORE THAN ONCE at orientations.

Lol, thanks for the info. I'm sure I will have no problem passing these kinds of tests though I guess I can't speak for the other recruits. Did you go through EPIK orientation and if so did you dress formal or semi-formal everyday? |

I've not yet seen any one on orientation dress formally. Casual or at the very most semi formal. As long as your clothes are clean you'll be on par with the average new EPIK teacher. |

Pants, shirt and socks would be good.
It is business casual (golf shirts, long pants of some kind and socks).
I never checked on people's underwear (aye or nay). Didn't ever seem relevant to me.

Thanks for the feedback, I was told there would be at least one day of the orientation where I should dress formal. Other than that I think I'll go semi. |
