BS.

You can order them online from amazon. No c/card? Get a friend or famillymember to buy them and wire them the money.

I hate excuses.

Me, I download coz it's FREE and movie stars and producers have enough money already.

If there was a permanently stocked buffet bar in the middle of the street and there were NEVER any staff or security present, ever, I'd have me a cheeseburger or two, were I walking by!

I can watch my favorite shows online at amazon.com? That's news to me!

Or, are you asking me to buy a movie I've never seen yet?[/quote

How can you see the movie you haven't seen without paying for it first (if you don't download it for free?)

That's what people used to do.

Hey I download, but tbh I consider it a very freaky luxury that I'm constantly amazed that we continue to be able to do.

You're presuming everyone here has a friend or family/member that is able/willing to do that.

I don't think new releases or games should be free.
but I think TV shows, and old movies should be free.

why? simple if it's played on the radio then I can record it right?
if it's broadcasted on tv then I can TIVO it right?
so what's the difference I download it?
those shows have already gone to air, they have made their money already.
downloading Family ties or mash just makes it easier for me to see, as I am not back home and watching it on TV through syndication re runs on cable.

they have already made there money and it's available on tv so what's the difference I download it.

Why do people pirate stuff? It's convenient, extremely low-risk, and high-reward. Literally end-of-story.

Adjust any of those variables in the other direction and you'll find more people paying for content.

Do TV sites in the US accept PayPal?

No but amazon does, once the tv show is put on sale on dvd.

Just because you go abroad doesn't mean you're enitled to all the creature comforts of home.

'Uh, not taking the job if I can't watch the latest Fox drama... whinge, whine, boo hoody hoo hoo...'

In fact some might say you'd expect things to be a lot different (gasp! Shock Horror!) and some might even move abroad for those very reasons (Oh mai gaht!)

Come on craptain, get wise.

I dl movies and TV shows that I can't watch here. I've been doing it for about a decade.

If it's a new movie, I really enjoyed it and it comes to a theater near me then I'll pay to go see it on the big screen here in Asia. If it didn't cost $50 to see a movie and buy popcorn at home with my significant other then I'd wait and see the movie in my country. If my favourite TV shows were available here then I'd wait and watch them on TV.

The reasons for piracy are clear and well documented. It's about pricing and availability. Especially in poorer countries and non-English countries. Precisely my reasons. At home in the 500 channel universe I have no need or desire to dl anything. I rarely go to the theater anymore at home because of the ridiculous prices. I gradually stopped buying them for the same reason. In my country today I think I'd have gotten rid of cable by now and gone with a small unlimited dl ISP.

The entertainment industry has been used to charging whatever they feel they can. Now they can't. They chose to fight rather than adapt. These guys are nuts and the primary cause for their own troubles. They're operating like crack dealers.

The alternative to piracy to me is to stop using their product altogether. An option I believe I would take if I was at home.

MHO

So it's okay to steal a Rolex because it's prohibitivelty expensive?

Like I said, differenc ebetween me and you guys is - I admit freely to myself that I download because it's free and there are no direct consequences threatening me, so I'd rather have it for free than pay.

You're trying to make up justifications, and while I'm not meaning it as an insult, and it's a natural psychological mechanism, it's funny how paper thin and obvious it is. No offense.

You like free, easily available stuff, just admit it.

I thought piracy mean't you were not allowed to distribute material and profit from the distribution.
so If I record TOP GUN from skylife, and then lent the recording to my friend next door to watch

that is illegal?

so if I went to pizza hutt and bought a 8 slice pizza and took one slice home for my friend. is that illegal?

I can understand SOPA, but they shouldn't be going after ordinary users who are just sharing material. they should ONLY be going after web site owners who are profiting from advertising from their websites where they are sharing material.

I don't profit by lending my friend my DVD collection. and either does he.
but what Hollywood is saying is, well by you lending your friend your copy of Batman which you paid for. you prevent your friend from going down to the local video store and purchasing it to watch.. WTF?
so we are now not allowed to share?

Stop childishly skirting the issue.

You know as well as I do you might share that dvd with one or two friends, potentially costing the movie company the sale of one or two units, not several thousand.

A seeder with 4000 peers is potentially loing the producers and distributors thousands of units.

You know it, I know it, you pretend otherwise to make yourself feel good.

Simple.

I think the difference between us is that you can't debate the issue. What does a rolex watch have to do with dl-ing or file sharing?

Let's do it your way.

If I left a $20.00 bill (or a rolex watch or the keys to my beemer) on a table you would steal it if they were no direct consequences. I wouldn't. If you were actually serious then that says something about your character not mine.

As far as my reasons or justifications or -insert here-, who are you to judge me? LOL Especially after your apparent admission that you would steal candy from a baby if there were no direct consequences?

NO, it doesn't work that way.
it doesn't matter if it's one person or 1 million people.
the governments are trying to make Sharing illegal.
and they can't do that.
It's like me lending my car to my friend to borrow for the weekend. oh no now I am costing the automobile industry money. god forbid 1 million people lend their cars to family or friends this weekend.

oh I lent some sugar to my next door neighbor . now I am responsible for loses to the sugar industry which will effect futures on the stock market!

Hollywood have to accept the fact that sharing is here to stay. they can't just say, "well sharing other products is ok, but not ours!"
either sharing is illegal. or not.

SIMPLE!

the internet is a tool where sharing has become more easier among our friends and hollywood hate that.

You are either a dullard or trying to be disengenius, Fosterman.

The auto companies have sold 1million units in that scenario.

In my 'seeder with 4000 peers example' - only ONE unit has been bought and is being given to 4000 others for free.

You either know that and are trolling me or you, like the craptain, need to smarten up.

Apologies for typos, I'm on a five mon break Smile
