I've just been offered a job there (I won't name the school) and wondered how people have found it working and living in that area...

I have previously worked there, and for me it was a little far away as most of my friends live in Seoul however it's not too bad.
There is a train/subway station and good bus links, a couple of big supermarkets (Lotte Mart and Emart) and plenty of little markets.
It really depends where is Osan your school is (some places are classed as Osan but are basically in a field in the middle of nowhere)? And what you like?

I'm not overly concerned about being in the middle of a major city. I'd just like to be able to get into Seoul with ease. Of course I'd like to enjoy the place itself, but day to day things like amenities and transport are a concern too.

My school claims to be 5-10 mins from Osan station... by the way, what did you do for housing?

Thanks

Osan is fine. I lived further out in Pyeongtaek and easily took the train or subway into Seoul. Buses should also be available, but they cost a little more. Don't let the distance stop you if you have a decent job offer.

If you're near the station, you're golden. First, they have rapid subway trains every hour to 90 minutes. Second, they have buses that come and go all over the place from the terminal (which is at the train station). Third, they have nooriro commuter trains, as well as a few Mughungwha trains that stop at Osan Station. So, as far as transportation goes, you're sitting at, what I would consider the 3rd best location on the Gyeongbu line outside Seoul (Suwon and Pyeongtaek being better due to the station size/train frequency).

Osan itself is fine. You're two stops from Songtan which has loads of western restaurants, bars, and social things to do (just outside the airbase), you're 5 stops from Suwon, which is the provincial capitol. Osan itself is pretty tiny, just a speed bump between Pyeongtaek and Suwon (and the TINY portion of Hwaseong that's to the north) but it's got an Outback, McDonalds, and other commercial, western places as well as all the local Korean joints.

Only down side is that if you stay in Seoul too late, you can't come home cheaply. Also, it does require more planning and forethought for going into town. All in all, I'd live there again.

Housing was provided by the school. I was also 5-10mins away from the station.

As Osan is a pretty small place officetels would be difficult to find however a studio or one-bed apartment should be a little cheaper than Suwon and a lot cheaper than Seoul. You could live in Dongtan, which isn't far away and more modern. Key money should be around 5-10million.

Isn't your school providing housing?

Yes they're putting on an officetel, just wanted to know people's experiences on the whole.

Thanks for all of your responses so far, they've been very helpful.
