Just wondering if anyone had their iphone 4 unlocked with KT and then taken to Canada and got it working with a Canadian carrier. I'll be heading back home and just wondering if there's any problems you had, or if it was all smooth sailing.
I should add that I am only halfway through my 2 year contract. |

| I was going to try on my summer vacation last year, but at that time, no carriers in Alberta were selling SIM cards for pre-paid service on smartphones at all. |

Yeah, I think I'd just get a plan instead of pre-paid. I can see why they may not allow pre-payment with smartphones, as data might take up most of the fee. |

I would also like to know this.
I also have an iPhone4 from KT/SHOW and will be going back to Canada and want to take it with me, here is what i found out so far:
I don't think there is an unlock service outside of a company in the US, which was shut down and recently reinstated but their service starts at $199.99!
1) the unlock depends on your baseband, go to settings>general>about then google search your options. as of today there is no unlock, of any kind, for baseband 04.11.08. Only baseband 04.10 and lower can be unlocked
2) iPhone's sold from KT come factory unlocked, have not verified this
3) simply buy a Gevey Sim granted your baseband complies and use any SIM Card in Canada after |

| Bummer! I got a message back from KT the very day I paid the 400,000 won or so to unlock my phone which said "congratulations you have now unlocked your iPhone.". Well, now I'm in Canada and tried everything and my phone will not work at all with my local sim card (Telus). I'm wondering why this is. KT *did* claim to have unlocked my iPhone. Yet it's not unlocked. This was 16 days ago. I read on the net that it takes 7-14 days for Apple to "process" the IMEI number. So now I am really worried as it is past the 14 day mark. I think the only explanation is that they entered the IMEI number wrong... otherwise, cannot think of an explanation of why it is not working. |

I just got off the phone with KT and they said if you are traveling anywhere and want an unlock, you must fax a copy of the ticket with departure/return dates plus a copy of your ARC to them and apply for an unlock 7 days in advance.
If you are leaving the country permanently, just cancel your contract, pay any oustanding debts such as the phone cost and bills and it will be unlocked without delay
BTW they told a friend of mine the iPhone4S were all sold factory unlocked |

Iphone 4's were also sold factory unlocked. The Iphones are not factory locked. They are network locked. Thats why KT has to send an over the air signal to "release" your phone from the network. Then you can pop in a SIM card from another place and use it. |
