Hi,
My fan is a bit noisy at times, and if the speakers are being used or too much video content then the laptop crashes.
I've heard (googling) that it's a messy repair, but has anyone had success getting one repaired and how much did you pay? |

I had a MacBook with a noisy fan and it ended up being 61,000W for replacement. Hope that helps for an estimate. |

In warranty and you are the 1st registered user, contact Lenovo. You will have to take it to them in Seoul. 20k won. They will come to you for a small additional charge (~10k).
Out of warranty, take it to the laptop repair guys at the seon-in plaza at Yongsan (across the tracks and to the left of the blue building if you are looking over the tracks from Yongsan Station). 20k won.

Yeah, looking online it seems it's a tricky bugger to replace as most of the laptop has to be taken apart as I seen as a usual case with this common issue on x61's overheating and shutting down.
I have to play sound through plug-in, powered speakers to prevent shutdown on video playback. May as well just keep as second computer.
Thanks for suggestions,
NK. |

It shouldnt' be very diffilcult. Its a simply matter of inscrewing screws and not losing them).
I've worked on Thinkpad T40's, T60's and the x61 shouldn't be any different. |

The fan on my Lenovo X300 laptop broke. I took it to the local Lenovo repair centre in my city, but they claimed they were unable to help me because I bought the laptop in another country. Later I called the Lenovo main office, and they were very helpful. They had to discuss with their managers and call me back a little later, but spoke good English and I got everything covered for free. A man picked it up at my office and I got it back with a new fan a couple of days later. It will be harder to convince them to change a fan using the warranty if it's only noisy, but as long as you pay for it, I guess it should be ok.
Come to think of it, my laptop has now started to make some fan noises and will shut down from overheating. I guess I'm in the same boat as you. As long as I keep the computer on Power Saving option, it wont overhead, but if I put it on Maximum Performance it will consume more power, overheat and shut down. I can't really complain that my computer is having problem now since it's 4 years old and been through a lot, including being soaked in water for extended period of time. |

Thanks, I now put it on 'power saver' too.
Yeah, this ones nearly 4 years and a year out of warranty.
I may attempt in a few weeks, when back in Scotland and I should have more space to work on things. Hardly any desk space here and wife and kids liable to want attention or move things if I start. |

Do you mean thermal paste? If you get a new fan from Lenovo, it should already have some applied to it. |
