You've never been to places like Praha, The District, Berlin, Zelen's, Etc....

Isolationist? More and more Koreans are going to Itaewon instead of Gangnam/Hongdae nowadays. See the Gentrification of Itaewon thread.

How dare you imperialist! Foreigners in Korea must go native and eschew their home ways! They must only associate with koreans or if they must associate with other foriegners they must wear hanbok, hand drinks with two hands and speak Korean and if the Koreans refuse to speak to them in Korean, just suck it up!

So you're saying you've never been to Itaewon?

They don't know what they are saying.

So....Itaewon doesn't suck if you are not an "isolationist weirdo" (if you are an "isolationist weirdo", it sucks) but is good for shopping no matter what kind of weirdo you are. Don't get out of Korea or waste your time there.

Nice.

I don't hang out much in Itaewon, In fact I don't hang out much at all after 4 years in Seoul. What I did notice, however, after hitting up a few bars here and there over the last 3 months is a HUGE increase of young Koreans at these bars. These used to be the places I'd go to see fellow foreigners in Korea ie. teachers, but these places are half full of university kids. Looks like they're no longer scared of Itaewon.

Funny, I was in Seoul Pub just a couple of weeks ago on a weeknight and I didn't see a horde of young Koreans, thank God. Indeed, Seoul Pub, which I hadn't visited in years, seemed like the same old place, as did Itaewon in general. I also noticed that the French restaurant La Cigale has even improved.

I know that Itaewon inspires strong feelings in people one way and another, but I always thought that, Hooker Hill aside, it had more internatinal character than most other parts of Seoul. Just my opinion.

I was there over the weekend, and again it was overrun by Korean youngsters. Changes the environment completely.

So 3 weeks after bidding farewell to Seoul Pub here on Dave's, you've returned to the place you complained about to find that your original cause for complaint still remains, and decided to complain yet again. Will this cycle continue indefinitely, I wonder?

Believe it or not, such places don't exist purely to satisfy you. If you're not happy with a place such as Seoul Pub then you are free to go elsewhere, that is your privilege.

I used to frequent Seoul Pub fairly often and I always felt that owner of that place, whatever one's personal opinion of him might be, is a good businessman who knows how to make money.
