Keep what up? I'm pretty sure you derailed this before I showed up. Then when I did, you claimed to be trolling. Are you an exclusive Linux user? That's what this thread addresses. What constructive additions have you made here?

I'm sorry you feel so inadequate that you need to resort to this type of behavior.

Just can't help it, can you? Rolling Eyes

It's a thread on whether people are using Linux exclusively. There is a clear inference that most people dual-boot between Windows and Linux. My point is that, in contrast to Ubuntu, using Windows is a horrible experience. It's a perfectly legitimate comment in this context.

I agree.

I started looking for options because I felt windows was not worth paying for. I expect things I pay for to work, like my TV for instance. Can you imagine your TV experience if MS was running it? LMFAO. I found that Ubuntu easily works as well but it's free. No-brainer IMHO. It's like changing jobs. You still have issues but they're different issues. The Ubuntu community makes it much easier to solve them then windows secrecy. IMHO And it's free! LOL

FWIW it's not all surprising that Linux users would have some opinion on Windows or even Apple. Something drove them to try a free product when it seems people are inherently suspicious of free.

I would recommend everyone try it out as a dual boot or use the USB/cd boot option.

Great! I knew you would come through.

Look back int the thread and see where beeyee wrote (before anyone took this thread in a different direction):

I knew he was your real culprit! "~ing"...he is not an exclusive Linux user!!

I shall expect you to give him the terrible but important lessons which you have given me about being off-topic. Or is it just me you love so much you can't stay away?

The question remains: for all of my childish inadequacies, why do you always play with me?

Don't answer; it was rhetorical. You just can't help yourself.

The more I play with you, the more you get exposed as an asshat. Look at you now, quoting this and that... Making up things, like who went off topic first. Why go to all this trouble, troll? Worried about something?

But, after a few posts you tend to get confused, disoriented, and we always have to go through theses play by plays to help you follow.

For example, Beeyee, as another poster already agreed, did not go off topic. He IS an exclusive Linux user reflecting to a Windows experience. You got upset (hypocritically) , you completely derailed, and continue to do so, post after post.

I hope this helps. In your next post, ask me how one can be an exclusive Linux user if they compare it to W7. That would make my day.

Linux Mint itself is fine. Its the 3rd party programs that are buggy as hell.

like, Skype or Google Chrome. i guess that's to expected when these companies put their C Squad programmers on Linux. (A squad to Windows, B squad to Mac).

Beeyee: You started the derail with the anti-windows comment. Since you've been around since 2007, you should KNOW what kind of argument comments like that start and that these threads derail easily. It wasn't on topic and it was flamebait (even if it was unintentional).

Carbon: Anymore than 1 polite remark in response to Beeyee was too much. Beeyee's spark was fanned by your comment.

Crescent: Could have just left well enough alone and stayed on topic.

All of you are responsible for the derail. If you want to talk the merits and detriments of the other OS's, make another thread.

The only thing really stopping me from switching to only linux is wine's gold rating for starcraft 2. If developers (or even just Blizzard) got on the Linux bandwagon, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Initially I dual booted only to play Civ IV BTS. But it plays great on Wine now. http://appdb.winehq.org/

I'm using Ubuntu now, exclusively for about a year.

Some cons:

- Drivers, for things like webcams, printers etc. can be hard to find or difficult to install.
- Some software doesn't work on Linux. Sometimes there are workarounds, but these require a little time. The latest example for me is that the Microsoft Silverlight player doesn't work on Linux so I can't use Netflix.
- Photoshop doesn't work. Yes, there's the Gimp, but it doesn't support vector based editing. That means that you are quite limited with what you can do with fonts. Not a biggie for editing photos, but a biggie for any type of print/web design.

Even though I'm personally happy with Ubuntu, I think saying it's free is a type of false economy. You will probably have to invest time into understanding it's conventions, troubleshooting issues with drivers etc...if you don't enjoy doing these tasks then it's synonymous with unpaid work.

Good points.

Go here http://ubuntuforums.org/ and search or post.

To be fair Windows and it's 'free' software have a learning curve too. Try not using it for a year or so and see how fast it becomes a new and unfamiliar product. Anyone switching from Apple to MS and back would understand. Anyone upgrading to a new Windows version would understand.

Speaking of false economies. I go to a school using pirated XP and pirated MSOffice and find I have to ask for help sometimes. These schools should be using and contributing to free Edubuntu.

Some companies will only produce for MS. Apple and other OS users must either find workarounds or just ignore their product. If you really need it you gotta spend the bucks.

Last I heard Linux runs 60% of the worlds servers and 90% of its supercomputers. It's currently picking up steam amongst consumers due to products like Ubuntu and Mint. Intel has 100% support for Linux. Unfortunately not everyone offers 100% support like Intel does and that acts as a drag on its acceptance. It's like all the old arguments against using Apple.

With Ubuntu and others you can dl it and run it from a cd or USB to see if your system has any issues. Their web sites have huge support for those with problems. Dual booting is perfect if you want to ween yourself off the MS mortgage or crack issues.

BTW I have had no problems whatsoever with drivers or software I use. But there was a learning curve. Teachers can handle it. Check out Edubuntu.

I use Ubuntu 10.10.
