I dont want to go back home. Can I turn up at the airport and cash ticket in or swap it to fly some where interesting for a holiday?

You can take it to the airport for a refund...

they will refund his credit card and you get zero

If it's on Korean air, or any of the better, Asian, service oriented airlines, AND it was bought at full price directly from them (not likely) it might be possible. But the full price fares for these airline are no joke. Might be cheaper just to scrap the ticket you have and buy a different one. Or preferably, go back in time and negotiate a different ticket or cash in lieu of the ticket home.

But really what you should do is call the airline and ask. I'm just talkin out of my ass.

Im not too woried bout getting a refund but would really like to swap the ticket to a different one. i dont care if i have to pay extra fees. Has anyone tried this?

In my experience, you can't just "swap tickets" but you can change the dates. For a fee of course.

Not since 9/11. International airline tickets are non transferable. The name on the ticket has to match the name in the passport.

Indeed.

Also, unless the school was willing to pay more for a refundable ticket then odds are the ticket is non-refundable or just partially refundable.
