| I've never heard of anyone having to write their usage on the door - the meters are always outside the apartment, near the shutoff valve. If your meter IS inside the apartment, then you'd have to report it somehow. So, is your meter inside? |
I live in Seoul and everyone in our building does this. You have to write the numbers on a sheet by your door. |

OP, this is almost definitely what's happening:
There is either not enough water in the pipes under the floor, or there is a connection problem between your boiler and your ondol system. If it's a water issue, you can fill the pipes yourself (there was a guide posted here before and I do NOT recommend doing it with no instructions). You might be able to get your landlord to look at it
As for your bill, the problem is you are paying a month behind. My first gas bill after using the heat is always low, just like my fist bill after not using it is still high. So it looks like this:
used 1 month: 100,000 bill
used sparingly, and then full blast: 120,000
didn't use at all: 150,000
In reality, this is what you're paying for:
(maybe a week or 2 of use for last bill cycle): 100,000
used 1 month: 120,000
used sparingly, and then full blast: 150,000
didn't use at all: haven't gotten that bill yet
Like another poster said, the ondol will use a lot more gas if it's not heating the floor, because instead of turning off and on to keep the temperature stable, it's running at full blast because it never reaches the desired temperature.
If you are leaking 150,000 worth of gas, you would most likely be able to smell it. |
