is there a lot of 3D work in Korea? huh. I didn't realize all of our big budget monster movies were outsourced.

by the way, to the OP:

you seem determined enough that if there is a way to go to Korea, you will find it. I am not an expert (I am not even in Korea yet myself) so I cannot help you find it.

however, I can tell that the wall you seem to keep running into with people in this thread has a lot to do with the fact you are posting on the ESL cafe -- which is a forum for English as a Second Language teachers. they assume you want to teach. you cannot teach there legally, hence the assumptions you want to work illegally.

like I said, I'm not an expert on Korean affairs. however, there are a lot of programs for English teachers without a degree in other countries. if this plan doesn't work out, search for those programs. you can probably travel around the world that way, save up money to go to school (or go home and apply for financial aid), and then travel to korea. who knows! good luck to you! I like your spunk, kid!

Figured I'd chime in even though it's pretty much just saying what others posted here before me. :p

I've been looking into what options are there for a foreigner to work legally in Korea, and after several months of research, the only really viable route is to get a degree. I'm in my late 20s myself, so I was looking very hard for shortcuts, but really, there simply aren't any reliable ones. Yes, you could get lucky and land some job through close friends' recommendations, or make a Korean maid fall head over heels for you and get an F-type visa through that, but yeah...

The more I thought about it, the more sense getting a degree made. Not only it's the most viable way of actually getting a job in Korea, but it also gives you a backup option if it doesn't work out, which is always a good thing. Yes, 3 years is a solid amount of time but, in my case at least, I feel like it's worth it. In the meantime you could work on your language knowledge, get a better sense of what you are committing to, and really prepare as well as possible.

There are alternatives, but they all involve networking from within Korea, and either a very good command of Korean language or a massive amount of luck (or both). Umm, there's also things like playing poker online, or running an internet business or whatever, but I'm sure if those were valid options for you, you wouldn't be posting here.

That's been pointed out a number of times already in this thread. An American who is not an ethnic Korean nor married to a Korean citizen has essentially zero hope of legally working in Korea.

That's right. There aren't any shortcuts, legal shortcuts. Furthermore, people who've "taken shortcuts" were the catalyst for the hoops mentioned already in this thread.

"Some job" that (a) cannot be filled by a Korean citizen already in Korea and (b) for which the OP, admittedly without a degree and apparently with no other professional qualifications? Yeah, right.

Exactly.

Gambling other than at government-approved casinos in the Republic of Korea is illegal. Gambling online is, therefore, illegal. It is neither a viable nor legal option for residing in Korea.

OP: Why, exactly, is it that you are intent on coming to Korea at this point in your life? Why can you not wait until you have a degree?

You made your point a many posts ago ago.

Because the OP keeps going on and on about how to get a job here without a degree. As pointed out above, specifics of his actual situation will help him get specific answers instead of generalities.

How did you plan on working in Korea without any sort of special skills/certification? I came to Korea in 2004 to compete/teach judo. I was here on a sort of athlete visa, which was only given because I competed at the international level. I had a 6-month visa that was contingent on not working more than 14.5hrs a week.

So... yes, it is possible to come and live on something other than an E-2 visa; however, you need to have some serious connections and world-class talent. Doesn't seem like you have either.

Or because Enquiring Minds Want to Know.

It's nice to know that you are so deeply committed to helping the OP out; I thought you were just being arrogant and antagonistic. My mistake.

Yes I realized that when I wrote the OP. However, there were boards for everything in the index: Living, working, off-topic and more I can't recall. So I figured my topic should be fairly relevant.

...and thank you.

Because I will be new in Korea, do you think you could pick me up from the airport and show me around town?

Whaaaaaaaat? Who says I'm a troll? >.~

Honestly when I find a appropriate, and deserving, I will mix trolling in with my posts but never without reason. Please see above post for a reference.

Do you think I could copy Al' Bundy's example? I don't imagine the line for Korean people to shoot me would be very long. I could imagine, however, that certain posters might get in line quite a few times... ^^

I miss that show!

Sure, you can copy the example but you wouldn't get very much

For starters Koreans don't own guns. And children could kill you (in whatever online shooting game they play now) quite easily and for free.

I beg to differ! The chap seems to have be strongly talented in the art of trolling on the internet.

Become a male escort. Whether legal or not, if you have some high profile customers, you are safe. You may even eventually marry a female client and get that coveted F visa that will allow you to get hired legally in a bar or something.
As for 3D jobs do they actually accept people from any country? I thought they like to accept people from countries who treat their citizens even worse than 3D employees are treated here so there can be no finger pointing.
