[The Floating World]

Mine , today is about the notion of absurdity. Something we imagine we come across daily in Korea or perhaps (although my target is the full and general notion), but who says so?

For anything to exist in the universe, it follows the physical laws of the universe, thus nothing existing in it can be deemed absurd.

It strikes me that the only true absurdity then, is man's conviction that he is authority enough to bestow the judgement on anything at all.

Further, perhaps the only fitting objects of the accusation are non other than himself and his own bafflement.

But then he himself is part of the universe and was seemingly designed to find things outside his understanding absurd, at least up until now.

A paradox?

What is a paradox but revelation of the falsity of words and the perhaps mistaken belief (that tell-tale 'perhaps' which I feel uncomfortable taking out of the sentence) in their ability to paint a picture of the universe?

Yes, it's the words, the words themselves that are absurd, the words, the words, those tiny little deceits that give thought illusionary shape.

Perhaps the truest vision of the experience of living is before words and in the final moments when they escape us, evaporating away like an outer garment of crepe paper in the breeze of our dying moment.

Edit, by my original definition, words are no more absurd than anything else. I guess everything holds it's own distinct reality.

My thoughts of the day: Where the HECK did my luck go? Three days ago, car broke down with only 1.5 weeks left till Korea. By time it is fixed, it will be time to leave. Today, my laptop's hard drive suddenly died. No reason (no, not dropped or anything), just bam, died. Later today, biked 1.3 miles to the bank. Upon heading back, chain fell off the bike. Had to walk back. I'm not used to riding a bike so bottom hurts now too. What a day!

The whole Jeremy Lin thing will die down once the public realize that it was a scheme orchestrated by sportswriters and the front office to get the Chinese interested in the NBA again. His contract is over this year and the Knicks will ship him off at higher value, the same thing they did with David Lee a couple years ago and look at him now.

Despite the probability of Mayweather vs Pacquiao never happening, I think this year will be a good one for boxing.

Mayweather vs Cotto
Pacquiao vs Bradley
Maybe Berto vs Kahn soon.
Lots of good, exciting fights to be looking forward to so far. And there will be more later in the year.

On another note, preparing for my first professional fight, I realize how hard it is to be a fighter. I already knew it would be hard going in, but man it takes another level of mental fortitude and drive to be a fighter. Everything from abstaining from water and food to cut weight, forcing yourself to run in the morning and then to train again to near collapse in the afternoon requires hardcore willpower. I have barely enough brain power to absorb and think about the technical aspect as well. Just shows you how incredible the world class guys are.

My thought of the day is that people should learn to differentiate between it's and its. It's not a typo, and its faulty usage bothers me.

Anderson 'The Spider' Silva has said that when his current UFC contract is up he wants a boxing match with Roy Jones Junior under boxing rules and conditions and apparently Jones is up for it too. I want to see that happen. so. bad.

I'm finding it difficult to understand the concept of 'thoughts.' They've never crossed my mind before.

At the moment, I'm watching the clasic crime film 'Charley Varrick; by Don Siegel.

In the opening bank robbery scene the manager tries to foil the gang's attempts and a security guard gets shot after he shoots one of the robbers.

The chief robber says to the manager 'you wanna get shot protecting someone else's money?'

It's a salient point and got me wondering. I certainly wouldn't. Yet we see police programmes on tv where things like this happen in real life too.

Why would a bank employee risk his or her life in that situation? Is it actually part of the job, would they get in trouble if they didn't? In what percentage of real life bank hold-ups do employees actually make an effort to put up resistance.

No way in hell I would.

Is it bank policy or are they just decent people unwilling to see criminals get away with their crimes?

Hadn't watched The Office (US) for a while and recently downloaded eps 11 - 15.

Realised that whilst some friends think it has gone downhill since Michael left, I don't really miss him at all (even though I think he was a great character) and still ike the show as much as I used too. James Spader is a lot more subtle, but still a good addition to the show.

Saw some ajosshi walk over the pedestrian crossing on a red light.

Everyone else waited but he thought his superior age put him above such irrelevancies as oncoming traffic.

So he marched across, pumping his arms and forcing at the cars to stop for him, totally arrogant and ridiculous.

But he promptly slipped up on a patch of black ice, landing on his behind with a loud *smack*.

Nobody around him dared to laugh though because he was stared at them all threateningly and waving his arms about.

I wanted to laugh so hard but thought it would look bad for a foreigner to be the only person laughing at someone elses "misfortune".

Watch out for that black ice folks.
