|
|
Hello
I'll have to open a bank account soon, and the only bank branches in my neighboorhood are NH Bank and KB Bank (not KEB). Is one of these preferable to the other in terms of overseas banking needs like international ATM machines, international ATM *cards*, overseas wire transfers, and buying traveler's checks?
From other threads it sounds like KEB would be the best bank, but their branch in my provincial town is far away. I will trek there if and when it's necessary, but is either NH or KB better than the other for some international stuff? I'll need to choose one of these two as my everyday bank. I'm particularly interested in finding a bank that can issue an ATM card with which I can withdraw from the Korean account while overseas.
Thanks for any insight or recommendation. |

I've had a good experience with KB bank- as far as international remittance is concerned you should deal with KEB.
unless you don't mind sending money home from your home bank's ATM |

NH seems to always have problems in general and is not really geared for foreigners. I woud go with something else. -2 year NH costumer- |

NH has english online banking that is easy to use and to send money home with. Used them for years and never had a problem. |

NH sucks. I'd go with Citibank. They have branches in the bigger cities and they refund ATM fees. Plus if you bank with Citi stateside they have free transfers I think. |

Do your homework on their remittance transfer fees. I heard Citibank is awful for international wires (even within its own bank) |

I use NH and the "main" NH Bank and have no problems with their online banking. I can see both accounts at once and it reminds me which one I can actually remit from. Their rates are pretty similar to XE.com and my home bank always gets the amount stated on the ... online form. Of course then they take away $15 but that's always been their fee.
The "main" branch has a good English speaker that set me up but if yours doesn't, Korea still has their free translator hotline. |

I've used them all and have accounts.
Personal experience NH seems to have more locations than KB. But KB is better for using foreign cards and anything international.
KEB I've found to be the best in terms of sending money home. So if there is a KEB you should definitely get an account.
But if you are doing more local things, NH might be more convient |
