Why choose an E-2 visa of headaches over an easy E-1 visa?

E-1 visa requires no background check, no certification of academic transcripts or diploma. Copies of your transcripts and degree are sufficient.

Too simple!

Really!

Ummm let me see? Not always easier as not everyone can get that plum uni/college job.

Not all ESL positions are University or College. E-1 means for Professors.
You seem to be forgetting all about the Hagwon/Academy, public school, camp workers.

Why no Criminal record check for E-1. Well where you are going to be work does not need be protected from ESL pedos ,crims, and pedos THE college student. Well maybe they do - given time and the antics of the waygook I would not be surprised with checks becoming standard.

Actually I am surprised that immi and schools do not demand verification of degrees. What with the history of (a few) fake degrees from both Korean and Expat professors.

Plus you are forgetting that a school MAY ASK for what ever they want.

My hubby and his friends are professors. Some of them are on F visas because they married Korean wives. They still needed the apostilled CBC and degree, medical check, and a bunch of other things including sealed transcripts, a certificate of residency, and a signed pledge.

You might want to look into this...

According to Korean law, professors are not permitted to teach anywhere but at university. The law was set in place to stamp out the practice of paying bribes to university professors, under the guise of it being for tutoring services, to ensure that a student's application at a particular university is accepted.

I've briefly talked about this with some of my colleagues who were given an E1 visa. They weren't happy about being switched from E2 to E1. Based on what they told me, it appears that the law I mentioned above applies to them. This means no summer or winter camps, or any other supplementary sources of income, for them.
