Fang Shuting, the chairperson of the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine says that bears are perfectly happy having their gall bladders drained. When speaking at a press conference yesterday, he reportedly said, �The process of extracting bear bile is like turning on a tap: natural, easy and without pain. After they�re done, the bears can even play happily outside. I don�t think there�s anything out of the ordinary! It might even be a very comfortable process!�

Activists and journalists were unimpressed with Mr Shuting�s comments. Shortly after the press conference, a journalist working for the Xiaoxiang Morning Post released undercover video of bear bile being gathered at a farm in China. The video, which has since gone viral in China, shows a bear screaming in pain as it�s gall bladder is drained of bile to make medicine.

So where's the video of Fang Shuting enjoying the very comfortable process of having his gallbladder drained?

So basically China, Korea, and Vietnam are the only countries where this is still allowed.

This "Traditional Chinese Medicine" is also helping fuel poaching of tigers, elephants, rhinos, and all kinds of endangered species. They'll pretty much be gone from the wild in several years if this crap goes on.

Is there any evidence that the traditional Chinese medicine is even effective?
It's pretty much based on BS, wives tales and ancient superstition anyway(i.e. eat up a ground up tiger d*ck and you magically have the power and virility of the tiger...yeah right). Even if it were effective it still wouldn't justify killing endangered species en masse.

Most of these animals are being killed and tortured for no real reason at all. Debunk traditional Chinese medicine in the eyes of the Chinese consumer and most of this stops.

Or just stop the practices anyway and give the Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean consumers ground up powder placebos. They wouldn't know the difference anyways.

Bear farming in Korea is suppose to end by May. Whether the Korean Department of Natural Resources actually follows through on their plan is another matter.

I also wonder if the plan will actually happen and if it does what will be the effects. In Korea it is the moon bears that are farmed for their bile. Moon bears are an endangered species
