| I lost my Nonghyup bankbook, probably left it in my Korean Hotel. I am currently visiting the USA, and will be back March 1. Before my trip, I singed up for online banking, and there is a paper in my bank book. (no passwords though) How screwed am I? Will I come home to a zero bank account? |

I remember once, when I was in Japan on business in '97, I lost my wallet. I was staying in a business class hotel, and I freaked out because I had everything in there, I was penniless without it. Just as I reached for the phone to call home for money, I heard a knock on the door. It was the cops. I was relieved to see my wallet in his hand, fat with Japanese Yen, and yes, the $$$ was all there. I had dropped it in the 7-11 and the young guys there called and turned it in to the cops.
Korea? I lost my wallet once as I got out of a taxi. It was cold, and it must have fallen out of my pocket into the street. It had about 300,000 won in it. Never saw it again. Re-traced my steps within minutes of losing it.
Sigh. |

| Nobody can use the book but you, they will ask for identification. Since you have a passport you can just go to the bank and get another one. Easy enough. |

Take one incident and use it to define a nation. Neat. |

My wallet fell out of my pocket once as I was jogging to work and two old ladies chased me down yelling 지갑 지갑! and gave it to me...in Korea. The guy above comparing Japan and Korea off of losing his wallet twice is ridiculous.
Can't you have a friend call the bank for you and let them know? |

I thought I lost my Nongyup bank book once. They replaced it no problem. Turned out I'd just misplaced it.
Also, twice in my 6 years here I've been distracted and left my money in the ATM. Both times, ajumas tracked me down waving a fistful of my cash. But then, I live in a small city, not in Seoul. |
