10 min taxi ride to suwon, maybe 20 mins for bus, if you live by the subway it's 3 stations away (10min ride). from dongtan to gangnam seoul is a 45min bus ride, or about 1.5hr subway ride to gangnam.

i've only been here for a week and a half but it seems alright.

Ok since i live here i figured that i would answer the questions and some other things for people here.

Dongtan is a thriving city in Hwaseong area. Its beautiful here because korea is trying to make more super cities that have a good environment for people to raise families and the such.

Which brings me to the next point. There is MANY families/couples here. Its a welcoming and warm place to say the least. In central park, they have daily/weekly days out for families and their children when it is warm. They always try to decorate things and make it look nice. Its also pretty safe here too

There is CCTV cameras EVERYWHERE, if you think there isnt, dont worry there is. Its not uncommon to see kids walking by themselves at 9 or 10 at night. The funny thing is Byeongjum (병점) is 10 minutes away and its pretty crappy looking there, trash everywhere. They try to keep things here a lot cleaner. you still see lots of drunk guys at night, but its the humor that will help you get through it too if you need a good laugh.

The foreigners here actually go to different bars. WA BAR is one side of the main road in dongtan, but to be honest, there isnt a prevalent amount of foreigners there. There is a place called "Koomas" that has foreigners go there as well and its righ by central park. As for schools there is TONS here. Both public and hagwons. I work for public and its awesome (strive to secure those jobs!)

People do go bowling sometimes here at the winnestar building 7F. but its a grab up for when they do. To get to seoul by bus you have 2 options the M4108 bus which goes to seoul station takes about 1 hr or so. The M4403 goes to Gangnam station and takes on average about 30 minutes. (traffic can affect these of course) you can take either of those buses on the main road in dongtan. Just make sure you read the bus schedule and pay attention to which way the red arrow points. they also have the names of places in korean AND english, so you can rely on that.

and a piece of advice get your hands on a "T money card" basically a subway/bus/and sometimes taxi card that you scan and can reload for any amount of money. (buses can range anywhere from 900 - 1700원 for the base amount and they charge after a certain distance 100원 per set length)

The dongtan clan page on facebook has people once in a while place things on there, but its again a grab up. Anything else people want to know? just ask, im writing this because im bored at school and figured id help people without having to talk to them lol. Not that i talk to people anyways, you would never guess im a teacher because im korean but from the states haha

I'm about to move to that area this week. Any ideas how much Officetels or apartments go for? Is seodongtan station the same area as dongtan/metapolis mall? How far is it to the ktx station near suwon? Is there an airport limousine bus from this area? Thanks thanks

Moved here last month.

Not bad, Not great. It's here. But I'm used to an insane active nightlife so I'm coming from a place of excess and exuberance.

There's stuff to do, there's some foreigners but it's more or less small. Lots of us head to suwon for our fun activities, but there's plenty of bars and restaurants. Overall, it's not bad. Safe, calm, and a good place to live if you aren't itchy for urban life.
