YES. The health check (done in Korea) is one of the documents you need to apply for your ARC.

Thanks. What's the usual turnaround time on one of those?

You technically have 90 days to take it, but your school ultimately will send you within a week of arrival.

As far as turnaround time, it was no more than one week for the test results (blood, urine) to come back.

FOR THE ULTRA CONCERNED SMOKERS (that are surely scouring for all the info, God knows I did last year):

Your TBPE drug test is done on the spot (this is for you, smokers). As I passed (35 days no smoking haha), I presume they didn't do a cannaboids test. I honestly don't know if they tested for pot when I sent it off, but I presume that if your TBPE is negative, they don't bother for weed.

"TBPE refers to a tetrabromophenolphtalein ethyl ester indicator test for the presence of hard drugs such as heroin, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and MDMA. )"

I thought one of the requirements for your E2 visa is to test negative for weed via a urine test?

Yes, the test SHOULD test for weed. It is part of what we, as E-2 workers are supposed to be tested for. That is why those of us who have been here for a while will say:

IF YOU ARE COMING HERE, DON'T SMOKE WEED.

Seeing as how more teachers were just busted for dealing, we really don't need more people who smoke coming here or bragging that they haven't smoked for 35 days on a monitored board.

Thank goodness I am leaving. Korea's been good to me, making me crazy too, and I hope like hell I end up somewhere where wanting to make a difference and do a good job is appreciated.

Health Check = 1 Week
Immigration ARC application = 3-5weeks
Total wait = 4-6weeks

Then you can get a cell-phone, bank account, etc.
