If someone got into a fight or conflict in Korea and was taken to the police station BUT an agreement was made and a fine paid at the station would it show on a Korean police check?
I've never been arrested but I hear that in Korea that for assaults that it is rare for it to go to a public prosecutor. The Korean way is pay $$$ at the police station and it's over. That said, will it show on a background check that you have to submit to employers???
Thanks!!!! |

If fingerprinted at the police station, then most likely it will be on the check. |

My buddy slugged a cab driver for not letting him out of the cab and resolved the issue with blood money. His check came up clean. |

Hopefully for him it won't show up. From experience without being charged, having it go to the prosecutor, or settling at the ps, yet was fingerprinted it showed up. |

They recently started fingerprinting foreigners who are involved in traffic accidents now (thanks Lee Myung Bak). I found that out when a taxi cut me off. |

If they're fingerprinting the Koreans, too, I'd say okay. If it's just the foreigners, then it's appalling. |

To manipulate the crime statistics, I would imagine. If you haven't noticed, they've been intent on creating the impression that there is an epidemic of crimes committed by foreigners in the last few years. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that's what's going on. After all, I had to pay a fine and got fingerprinted for being involved in a fender bender (the taxi cut me off, but managed to do so fast enough that he was completely in the lane when I rear ended him, and so all the blame landed on me (yes, it's completely ridiculous)).
The cop clearly stated that they fingerprint foreigners now when we are involved in traffic accidents. Maybe they fingerprint Koreans too, but he specified that they do so for foreigners. |

This seems too bizarre not to be true.
They fingerprinted you for a traffic accident?
I gotta go with absolute nonsense on that call.
I would have refused...but that is me.
There is no way in hell they are fingerprinting all people in traffic accidents now...no way.
To fingerprint only foreigners is an obvious human rights violation.
Anyone else have this experience? |

I wouldn't say it's Lee Myung Bak's doing. He loves foreigners, sometimes more so than Koreans from what I've heard. |

Following the passage of a bill by the National Assembly in April, tomorrow (July 1) is the day when the Korea Immigration Service will begin collecting the fingerprints of all foreigners who arrive and plan to stay in Korea for 91 days or more. Some 20,000 foreigners are expected to be fingerprinted by the end of this year. Next January, the Service plans to begin fingerprinting all long-term residents, regardless of when they arrived.
This represents a revival of the fingerprinting system that was disbanded in 2003, and follows the institution of similar systems in Japan and the United States.

Worse still - you're not allowed to enter Korea if you've had both hands amputated, or were born without them!
They tried 'stump' prints but they weren't 100% unique..... |

I think all foreigners are supposed to get their fingerprints done (since January 1st). Therefore, maybe they're just getting yours done while you're at the police station to get it out of the way? I don't know- I'm merely giving another possibility. |
